Passing Down the Pedals of Joy, a generations love affairs with bicycle

Most people especially in my country ride the bicycle as a means of transportation and also for fun, especially the youth, Cycling has always been a cherished part of our lives, you can't reminisce your childhood memories and a bicycle won't be involved, As I dropped my daughter at her school this morning, I overheard a parent complaining of how her son had saved some amount of money through out the year just to get himself a bicycle since she refused to get him one, she was surprised a food lover like her son could go through the sacrifice of halving his feeding allowance daily just to meet up his goal I couldn't help smile because I knew what the pure and irresistible love for this two-wheeled wonder felt like, It wasn't just a means of transportation.

That moment was a gateway to reliving the cherished memories of my youth. I remember the days when bicycle competitions on the streets were a common sight. There were no prizes, but the enthusiasm was infectious. We raced against friends, our laughter echoing through the neighborhood, our hearts racing faster than our wheels. It was the kind of innocent joy that only cycling could provide. Some of us were so addicted to cycling that we would sacrifice our precious feeding allowance to rent a bicycle for a few hours. The addiction was real, and it was a testament to the magnetic pull of those simple steel frames and spinning wheels haha. What made cycling even more special was its generational continuity. Our parents had their own tales of cycling adventures to share, and this connection added a layer of depth to the activity. It was a bridge between the past and the present, connecting us to our family history.

As we grew older, we realized that cycling was not only fun but also a fantastic form of exercise. It explained why the most adored couple in our neighborhood then, even in their old age, continued to ride their bicycles together on weekends. I often admired them and dreamed of finding a partner with whom I could share such happy and relaxing cycling moments, even in our golden years.

Cycling, with its blend of nostalgia, exercise, and fun moments, has always held a special place in our hearts. It's a love that spans generations, and I look forward to passing it on to the next, just as it was passed down to me. Recently, my 5-year-old daughter has been requesting a bicycle of her own as her next birthday gift, and I smiled knowing it was her time, and I couldn't say no to her wish, I also disturbed my parent during my time, and even though I faced some gender-based challenges before my parent eventually gave in to my plea, I was not going to let my daughter pass through same, her birthday is in four months, and yes, she will be getting a bicycle, now I need to add a bicycle to my shopping list, I'm not sure of how much the size needed for her will cost, I need to find a decent bicycle at an affordable price and with all the necessary features. I'll also need to find a way to surprise her with it. I could look into second-hand stores or online marketplaces, or I could check with my friends to see if any of them know of a good deal.

I feel super excited passing the cycling fun to my generation and can't wait for the surprise birthday, as I have not assured her yet that I am going to buy her one, so she might still be in doubt, I want to make it a surprise, just like my dad did to me the very first time he bought me a bicycle. Being gifted a bicycle is one of the very best feelings you can't forget easily, at least I haven't forgotten mine, till date that memory lingers and stays dear to my heart and I want my daughter to have that experience as well. My husband is as excited as I am, just like me, he was taught how to ride a bicycle by a relative, not his parent, sadly because they got divorced when he was still very young, and he never had his dad around, but today, his face lightened up as he anticipated when he would start teaching his daughter how to ride a bicycle soon, this is the joy cycling brings and I'm glad to enjoy this moment with my family.

Thank you for reading❤❤

You captured my feeling about cycling exactly. It is not just transportation, but pure joy — and symbolic of freedom. If you have wheels, you can go far and fast, without fuel or public transportation or help from anyone. It’s wonderful that you are passing this joy on to your child.

It's truly a blend of practical transportation and sheer joy, and it symbolizes a sense of freedom unlike any other mode of travel. Sharing this passion for cycling with the next generation is a wonderful way to instill a love for the outdoors and a sense of independence in our children. It's a gift that keeps on giving.

Yes it really is a gift that keeps on giving. And it’s so low-impact when it comes to the environment!

Smile I remember those days I'd cycling competition on the street, it's always exciting.

Although I couldn't participate back then due to some reasons and then my phobia, but I enjoyed the fun, the activities and smile on everyone faces.

I know of how girls ain't really allowed to ride then, and that was one of the he core reason why I decided to learn myself, after getting to the north and seeing girls od 3 to 5 years riding bicycle perfectly, I can't help but be ashamed and then decide to learn .

I also had my sweetest and most memorable childhood with bicycle. Surely once your kid has her own bicycle, she'll be very happy. It's childhood ia never complete without that bicycle experience.
