Fulfilling Christmas desires by making a beautiful carol dress for my neighbor

It's that time of the year when everyone is busy with numerous activities in preparation for the Christmas celebration and holiday season. One of the busiest people you will find now is fashion designers, working day and night to make pretty outfits and put smiles of satisfaction to those around them.

One thing common about Nigerians is how everyone values having a Christmas dress, some could stay the whole year without bothering about getting a new dress, but once December approaches, they must get a Christmas dress, it has been that way for as long as I can remember as a child, my mum also made sure we had new dresses, shoes and new hairdo every Christmas, and you can imagine how excited we always are this season, I'm a mum now and also make sure to continue the tradition but this time not just for my children alone, but everyone I can reach out to around me, I know how exciting it feels to own a new dress

To fulfill the rave of the Christmas season, I have to do my part by making sure everyone around me looks beautiful in their Christmas dresses, spreading the excitement I felt growing up during Christmas, this has kept me working overtime now, I just make sure to take a good rest on Sundays. We have 21 days to Christmas and I will be making different dresses each of these days fir different people, and I will try to share some of my projects here.

Today's dress was made for my very good neighbor, we live on the same street, and she has been ringing it every time she walks past my house and sees my displayed mannequin with a new dress on, she always admired them and told me I would be making her a dress for Christmas carol service taking place in her church, true to her words,

she brought her fabrics last week and left me with the decision of choosing a style that fits her body shape, I suggested she make a transition Basque gown, showing her a similar style on my phone I had made for someone else before, she liked it, and I got to work.

Making Process

  • Starting with the upper side of the dress, which combined using her lace fabric, Dutchess fabric, and satin fabric as the inner lining, here is how the cutout pattern looks like

  • After joining them together, this is how it looks.

  • I also cut out the back part of the gown, and sewed the darts, not combining this time, I made it just the lace with the satin lining and turned it using a cotton lining, making an oval shape design at the upper side of the back.

  • For the base of the dress, I cut out a straight skirt pattern

  • Next, using the upper bodice, I trimmed out the Basque shape in the lower part of the front skirt before joining them together

  • She wanted simple three-quarter sleeves which I think fits the style, so I cut out basic three-quarter

sleeves

  • I attached a zipper to the back of the dress and joined the front and back sides before attaching the sleeves.

Where do you live so I can already send my fabric for patronage. The dress is not just beautiful but the effort you put into making it is very commendable. If you made this in one day, then that is super commendable. People see the finishing and admire but the calculation, time and meticulous job put into it, is exhausting. I salute.
