Cycling: The Ultimate Kids' Activity for Holiday Fun and Fitness
The holiday season is here again in my country, where kids take a break from school activities, having about 3 week rest period before a new term begins, it has just been one week and I'm already exhausted matching with my children energy the whole day, they can be very hyperactive, and never feel like they need anytime to rest , the past one week has been about me shouting my lungs out making sure they don't get themselves injured while playing, or get any home appliances damaged, especially as my nephews came to spend the holiday with their cousin, my daughters.

When we are lucky to have power restored, that's the only time I get calm knowing they are fixed on the tv screen watching away their favourite tv shows. I know that just like me, during this holiday season, most parents are looking for entertaining ways to keep their kids active and engaged in a safe way also away from prolonged screen time. Well, i thought, why not get them involved with cycling! Riding bicycles is an ideal physical activity for children that checks so many boxes, it's fun, promotes fitness, builds skills, and even nurtures developmental growth. And with this current holiday, there's no better time to have them discover the joy of pedaling than now.
So in this post, I will be sharing reasons why cycling should absolutely be part of your kids activities this holiday season
As a form of exercise
The only time most of our children here in Nigeria get involved with exercise activities is during their Physical Education classes that takes place once in every week, now that the holiday is here, that means they won't be involved in any exercise for the next 3 weeks, but introducing them to cycling is also a form of exercise that will get their heart pumping in a fun and engaged way. The consistent pedaling motion gives a full-body workout that builds strength in children's legs, cores, and even arms if they're starting and stopping frequently. Cycling is also an excellent way for children to burn calories and it also their increase bone strength, and as they adapt, it can become a lifelong habit for them
**Promote Balance, Coordination, and Motor Skills **
Cycling also serves as a fantastic way to promote key motor skill development in young, growing children. My nephews and one of my daughter are all 6 years old, while my other daughter is 3 years, for then, the ability to balance on two wheels, and learning to maintain overall control can help them increase their coordination and focus. Rather than them exerting all that energy in being mischievous indoor, cycling helps them channel their energy in a more useful way.
Boost Confidence and Independence
How did you feel the first time you were finally able to ride a bicycle on your own? Pure happiness right? learning to ride a bike can be immensely empowering for children as they master a challenging new skill through practice and determination. And when they get the grasp of it, the sense of freedom, self confidence and independence they experience is indescribable. Don't you want that experience for your children, I sure do.
Opportunity for Family Bonding
Cycling is also another special way to bond with your children, spending quality time together, that moment you are riding with them or teaching them how to ride creates a close bond and also fond memories that don't get erased even they grow up, they will always remember their first experience with bicycle, and who is better to teach them if not you.
So I've called my sisters to bring my nephews bicycle over this weekend, they already know how to ride a bicycle, they would be a source If motivation to my daughter to overcome her cyclophobia, I have plans in engaging then in a bicycle race just within the compound, I could even spice things up putting obstacles for them to have more fun steering and avoiding them, I'm already getting excited thinking about the fun ways I could get them engaged in the cycling fun, their days of being mischievous while I get overly stressed from trying to reduce their hyper activeness is over, because we are channeling all that energy into something more fun and beneficial to their health- Cycling
The tremendous enjoyment children derive from the freedom of riding helps shape their mindsets about exercise in such a positive way. And with cycling being such a low-impact exercise, it's an activity kids can stick with for decades without overstressing joints and risking injury as they age.
So as holiday breaks continues, dust off those old bikes or get your kids a new bicycle and safety gear, then get ready to watch as they discover the pure joy, freedom, and fitness possibilities that riding a bicycle provides, with the mental, physical, and lifestyle benefits cycling delivers for children, you'll be glad you took this decision.

Kids naturally love things that will give them so much fun and adventurous and one of it is that cycling you discussed about. I can remember riding some bicycle years ago when I was still younger though that has really been a long time though
Yes, you are right about that, anything to keep their active energy engaged, cycling is just the right activity for them now, and these memories are never forgotten.
