Equity over Equality: Earn as you work.

Hello! Welcome to my blog. This is another episode of the hivelearners weekly topic. I haven't been consistent with hivelearners community topics, that was because I didn't do a proper planning last week but now I got it under control🤗.

Today, I would like to share a personal experience and my thoughts regarding the concept of equal pay.

Growing up, I observed an unequal distribution of chores and food portions within my family. As the youngest, I was often burdened with more household tasks, while my older siblings had lighter responsibilities. However, during meal times, my eldest siblings consistently received the largest portion of food. This discrepancy bothered me, as I felt that the division of labor did not align with the sharing of resources.

One incident in particular fueled my frustration. My mother asked my eldest sibling to share a loaf of bread among the four of us, and to my dismay, he took the largest share for himself. Overwhelmed with anger, I impulsively threw away my own portion of bread and tea. This act of rebellion stemmed from my belief that my hard work warranted a fairer distribution of resources, especially when compared to my sibling who contributed less.

This concept of equal pay extends beyond my personal experiences at home. In my first job, I faced a similar situation where newcomers were paid the same amount as me, despite their lack of experience and low productivity. I consistently made sales of over 500k, while there were individuals like Amaka who prioritized personal matters over their work, did not adequately assist customers, yet still received the same salary as me. Witnessing this inequality deeply hurt me.

Given the chance, I would implement a pay structure where individuals are compensated according to their individual efforts and the nature of their work. Equity should always prevail over equality in order to encourage productivity and healthy competition in work environment.I firmly believe that this approach is necessary to ensure fairness and happiness among all employees. It seems unjust to reward those who work diligently like lions with the same salary as those who put in minimal effort like ants. By adequately recognizing and rewarding hard work, we can create a society where individuals feel valued and motivated to give their best.

Implementing such a system would likely have repercussions, especially for Nigerian politicians who often benefit from unfair advantages. Nevertheless, this change would greatly benefit the hardworking individuals who have historically been overlooked and underpaid. It is time to rectify this imbalance and ensure that individuals are justly compensated for their genuine efforts.

The idea of equal pay does not align with my beliefs. I advocate for a pay structure that takes into account the efforts and contributions made by individuals, potentially even rewarding those who go above and beyond. By implementing such a system, we can foster a sense of fairness and appreciation, ensuring that hardworking individuals are not left feeling cheated and undervalued.

The elder siblings case no be small...I remember in the sharing of food the eldest own is always more maybe because their stomach is bigger I don't know

Having everyone paid same salary is nearly impossible but I wish it is.

I do wish you well this week

Why would you wish that everyone should be paid equal? If that should happen it will affect the productivity level. Everyone should be paid according to work done not equally but I guess you have your reasons.

The equality of pay seems to be the injustice, doesn't it?
It is unjust to those who work harder with dedication. Your frustration had a right to happen.

I agree with you, we should be paid according to our work done. I've faced a similar situation as you, my workload was increased,I had to do the job of a marketer in the morning till evening, then from 6 pm I would do the work of a salesperson, but my salary wasn't increased by 1%. I earned equl pay with my colleagues who did less work
