If Your Body Is Telling You...

avatar

Have you heard that when your mind is telling you you are thirsty, your body is already suffering from the lack of proper hydration?

That's why (some) people drink water regularly, in small sips (to give it time to be absorbed), whether they are thirsty or not.

Wish I'd put into practice all I know, consistently.

I felt tired all day long (so far). Do you think my mind is trying to tell me something I've ignored consistently? Like I might be pushing too hard sometimes.

Probably.

But if the same rule as in hydration applies, this means it's already a cry out for help. Hey, stupid, get some rest! Or see what else is wrong.

So, I think I'd better listen. I've already been mostly inactive today, and I plan to do the same for most of the day.

I also have a sore throat which has been bugging me for a few days, that is under treatment, but maybe that's slowly taking its toll.

This could have easily been only a #thread (and it will be one), but I'm too stubborn to lose my daily posting streak while it still goes, lol.

Moral of this post: take time to "listen" to your body. Even better, anticipate its needs.

I have a feeling the whole “when your thirsty it’s already too late “ is a myth and will get debunked soon.

There are many myths in this nutrition field, from what I've seen. And many get debunked. However, to me this makes sense. Just the fact it improves cognitive functions is enough for me. Besides all the other roles it has in our body.

I've heard of this one. It occurs when you feel just a tiny sensation of hunger. Unfortunately many are mistaking the tiny sensation of hunger with actual hunger and resort to eating more food than they need, especially junk food turning themselves into whales.

That happens, yeah... I noticed doing physical work will take your mind off eating for a while. Not as much if you need your mind for the heavylifting. It will keep shouting: "You're hungry!".

It's okay to lose the streak. The first time is hard then it's easy 🤣

Don't tempt me, I know how it is, I lost it before. Very hard to get it back.

Keep the streak alive.

There is no myth about proper hydration. As we get dehydrated, our bodies start with subtle signs like fatigue, foggy thinking, and, yes, even hunger.

In my professional opinion, I feel it is better to stay hydrated rather than wait for signs of dehydration.

We do not wait until our cars are totally out of gas before getting more fuel.

Though provoking post, Adrian.

Great analogy about car and gas, John! And that's for sharing your professional opinion.

It is amazing how smart our body is if we would just listen to it. Most people ignore what their bodies are telling them. Thanks for sharing.

That's true. And we still keep learning about it, as a species.

sore throat

Have you been shouting too much at something or someone? :))

Nope! :) I'm generally pretty calm. Well, maybe Splinterlands frustrates me sometimes, but not enough for a sore throat, lol.

Well, at least a sore throat doesn't sound as bad as the headache I got a few days ago. It's getting better and I forced myself to get more sleep so I could get better.

Yeah, sore throat is my Achilles' heel. I often have this issue.

I've been hearing this too. I just wonder if it is true.

I usually have a cup of coffee or water that I regularly sip when in front of a computer. I am more motivated to drink a lot of liquids to flush out toxins whenever I feel sick.

However, when I am outside working under the sun or working out in the gym, I am used to resisting the urge to drink water as much as I can. Drinking too much water when carrying heavy stuff or doing extensive workouts usually lead to painful abdomen - that is based on our experience. After work/workout, I can drink all the water I want. :)

Interesting. I didn't know that.

Yeah, this happens to me too. But I try to drink water more regularly now to see how things change for me. Normally I don't feel the need to drink as many liquids as other people I know, even at a comparable activity.

I hear you..I'm one of these people who always gets reminded about not drinking enough water when I'm already at least downhill and then suddenly get super dizzy so I'm already far too late to quickly be able to get rid of the symptoms. I'm trying to improve by drinking during the day even if not thirsty but I just forget often :)

It's good that you are aware though, that's the first step!

Yep, but like you, I still don't drink enough water during the day. I started on Friday when I was fatigued, and I have already forgotten to drink regularly. I need to take this more seriously.
