Greetings to my esteemed friends on the Deep Dives platform and the entire hive blockchain. It's another day and time to share with you happenings around Madagascar and how the opening ceremony of the Indian Ocean Games have claimed the lives of some innocent spectators. It's your friend @faquan saying hello from this part of the world.

The Indian Ocean Island Games that was introduced in 1977 and had been one of the most celebrated tournaments hosted for countries that are part of the Indian Ocean Islands. This year's games hosted by Madagascar has become tragic, claiming some lives during the opening ceremony of the games.

It has been reported that about 12 people were killed and 80 persons injured in a stampede that occurred over the weekend. Although, the casualties started above by the Prime Minister have a slight difference from other sources that accounted for about 13 death and 120 injured people.

The stampede occurred at the entrance to the Barea stadium, where a crowd of around 50,000 spectators had arrived to attend the opening ceremony of the Indian Ocean Island Games.

The cause of the tragedy was not immediately known, but the Red Cross said the toll could climb.

"There were a lot of people at the entrance, which triggered a stampede," Antsa Mirado, a communications manager with the Red Cross, informed.

Madagascar President Andry Rajoelina, who was present at the opening ceremony, called for a minute's silence.

A similar incident occurred in 2019 in where 15 people lost their lives in a stampede. I think that organisers should see these occurrences as a big and look for possible solutions to manage the influx of crowd.

Crowd management should be one of the major concern of the organizers of this event. Since this is an event that attracts crowd, a bigger and better stadium should be made available for people or it should be done behind closed doors.
