MY CYCLING ADVENTURE

avatar

Growing up with my four brothers was something I admired most, we lived in a big compound where everyone had the freedom to play the way they wanted, I was a lively, spirited little girl with an unquenchable thirst for adventure. My soul yearned for the freedom that comes with riding a bicycle, and my curiosity knew no limits.

I grew up seeing my older brothers speed around the streets on their Bicycles with fearlessness. I was astounded by their superb balance and graceful maneuvering around any sort of obstacle. I was so excited to ride a bicycle and get the same rush that my brothers always talked about since I was inspired by them.

I told my father that I wanted to learn how to ride a bicycle. My father first refused, fearing that I would hurt myself because I was a lady. But after much pleading and convincing, he agreed to let me go out and practice on the field with my siblings, which made me pleased and he got me knee pads and a helmet the next day. I couldn't wait to start my cycling adventure.

My brothers offered to help because that would also give them a chance to ride as well and compete with each other on the field. On my father's advice, we went to the field because it was an open area that would offer a secure refuge for my first riding experiences. I mounted the bicycle with a mixture of anticipation and fear, then I carefully followed my brother's directions.

For hours, I tried to balance myself by wobbling back and forth while attempting to move on two wheels. My brothers were kind to me, one of them held onto my seat and moved me forward with gentle assistance. Every time I lost control and fell to the ground, my heart thumped uneasily.

My body was tired and injured after multiple falls, and my early excitement faded. I started to doubt myself and wondered if I wanted to learn this skill. My self-assurance began to fade and was replaced by discouragement and worry. I pondered whether I would ever pick up the skill of riding a bicycle like the other kids in the area.

My brothers were my inspiration then, they told me never to give up because I would still have more bruises, and they made me understand how lovely it would be for me to learn how to ride, I was so happy to hear them speak to me in their gentle voice.

After giving my brother's words some thought, I prepared myself. I had the insight that persistence in rising above failures was what truly determined success instead of having never failed. My heart was filled with a fresh feeling of determination, and I realized I couldn't give up on my dream.

My passion for cycling bloomed into a lifelong obsession after that day. I found that my courage and determination went much beyond riding a bicycle. I tackled every challenge with the same unwavering determination that had helped me go forward when riding a bicycle.

Hahaha, this is a very good one our fears could end up being our obsession. Stay thankful to your brothers for fueling your passion for cycling.

Thank you for your words! It's a powerful reminder that perseverance is the key to success, that we can't reach our dreams without overcoming obstacles.

Passion can turn into unshakeable strength when determination is at the heart of our actions.

As you so aptly put it, these moments of clarity and determination are precious in a lifetime, because they remind us that the real power lies within ourselves, in our ability to persevere and pursue our dreams, even when the path seems difficult. Thanks to the inspiration of your brothers, you now know that every failure is an opportunity to grow and become stronger.
