All my life have always been occupied doing one thing or the other, apart from it Being a family thing, hard work has always been the core principle of my family but as an individual staying idle has never been my kind of thing. we all have different type personalities, I discovered I was extremely energetic and adventurous, so always want to try all kind of thing. sometimes it feels like I'm being chased by something, the urge to try everything out become I run out of time is excruciating.

As a child, in my family we had everything any average Nigerian family could have but I have always wanted to have my own thing, my own source of income, being independent is all I care about. little by little I started navigating my life towards earning my financial independence, little did I know that it will take more than petty jobs to earn the kind of financial freedom I crave😅.

I did some petty job immediately I graduated from secondary school, those days when you just want to prove that you have grown and capable of earning your own income. the first year after my secondary school graduation I was not able to secure admission, I was really devastated and my neighbourhood doesn't really have much because it was a new site as at then, I tried my best look for what to but I couldn't get any. the only kind of jobs that were available was teaching jobs. I have never been a fan of being a teacher, I consider it to be the most underpaid job in my country.

I kept on searching, eventually I met a friend who stays in my neighbourhood, he was also seeking admission but nothing yet. it feels like we were in the same category, so we could relate. some day he informed me about a vacancy at were he was working, some kind of private school. I told him I was not interested in a teaching job but he insisted that I checked it out, that it would be fun and the pay was good. I was already tired of searching for a job, so I felt it wouldn't kill me if I give it a try, I can always opt out😅.

On Monday, I put on my pants and shirt, just like a typical teacher😅, I got there met the principal, it was woman, she asked me some questions which I answered but i noticed that she was really friendly during our conversations, I guess that friend mine must have informed her about me. she told the pay was ₦15,000 which seems fair because as at 2014/15 there was still a lot of things you could do with that sum of money especially a student.

I didn't have any expectations for the job because in my mind I knew I was just giving it a try. the first week was hard a little, adjusting to my new found job was challenging but it feels good to actually see myself doing something and looking forward to receiving my first salary, A month passed and I was paid ₦12000 because I started around the middle of the month, Which is more than I deserve. I was so joyful having received my first salary.

I worked their for 5 months before my admission came in, it was not the school I wanted but I don't mind settling for less at that moment because I was kind of desperate. so I had to inform the principal about my situation, I finished the 5th month so that she could find a replacement for me, I guess it was fun while it lasted.

Well, that was my first and last teaching job I ever attempted, which at first I never thought it was possible but I guess learnt nothing is impossible as long as you are willing to give it a try but I wouldn't want to go back there even if I could because I'm still not a fan of teaching jobs😅, I guess teaching job is not just for everyone but even if I could, I wouldn't be able to because the school moved away from my neighbourhood some years ago.

Despite everything, the salary I earned from the teaching job was what I used to start my rabbit farm, which is still in existence till this moment. it might not have been my kind of job but it was worth it.

You are right o, teaching job isn't for everyone. It's for those that have passion for it cause it's not easy dealing with pupils.

You actually did well with the salaries you earned from the job

I also didn't get admission instantly. I stayed at home all year long without doing anything because my dad didn't allow me. Teaching wound have been a go to, because that was what most of my friends we found ourselves in same situation were doing. I have passion for it and that's what I do now. Nice one from you.

Not all parents allow their children to seek out jobs at that stage, in my case my parents new the friend that recommended the teaching job and I should do it to pass time which I did.

Thanks for stopping by🤗

Teaching job is one of the best job in our society but you are right it is not for everyone. It is good you started your job with fair salary. In Pakistan, people paid much low as compared to Nigeria. I also have been teacher but I have given online lecture. It was more productive when you made a rabbit farm from your salary, I wish you best of luck for more good opportunities.

Apart from the issue of teachers being underpaid, teaching job is actually great because of its impact in our society, salaries for teaching job here in Nigeria depends on the school you are employed, some schools salary are far worse than you can imagine. The Rabbit farm was all about starting something for myself and I'm glad it worked.

I appreciate your thoughtful contribution, thanks for stopping by🤗
