Reflection Hunters Contest Round 106 - my Entry "Dalmatian Pelican Reflection"

Hello friends of reflections!

My entry for the Reflection Contest Round 106 is a photo of a Dalmatian Pelican reflected in the pond of the pelican enclosure in the Viennese Schönbrunn Zoo.

The picture is one of several shots I took with my Nikon D3100 camera at a visit of Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna. Incidentally, it is the oldest existing zoo in the world. The following photos are added to my contribution out of competition.

I spent some time at the pelican enclosure and photographed the graceful animals. Dalmatian pelicans are the largest pelicans with a wingspan of around 3 meters.

The Dalmatian Pelican is threatened and declining despite conservation efforts, hence these birds are on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

In zoos they are bred as part of a European Endangered Species Program (EEP). Schönbrunn Zoo has been very successful in this respect - since 1994 there have been regular offspring among the Dalmatian Pelicans, which is thanks to the prudent care.

Hallo Freunde der Reflexionen!

Mein Beitrag für den Reflexionen-Wettbewerb Runde 106 ist ein Foto eines Krauskopfpelikans, der sich im Teich des Pelikangeheges im Tiergarten Schönbrunn in Wien spiegelt.

Das Bild ist eine von mehreren Aufnahmen, die ich mit meiner Nikon D3100 Kamera bei einem Besuch im Tiergarten Schönbrunn in Wien gemacht habe. Er ist übrigens der älteste noch bestehende Zoo der Welt. Die folgenden Fotos sind meinem Beitrag außer Konkurrenz beigefügt.

Ich verbrachte einige Zeit am Pelikangehege und fotografierte die anmutigen Tiere. Krauskopfpelikane (Dalmatinische Pelikane) sind die größten Pelikane mit einer Flügelspannweite von etwa 3 Metern. Der Krauskopfpelikan ist bedroht und der Bestand geht trotz Erhaltungsbemühungen zurück, daher stehen diese Vögel auf der Roten Liste der bedrohten Arten der IUCN. In Zoos werden sie im Rahmen des Europäischen Erhaltungszuchtprogramms (EEP) gezüchtet. Der Tiergarten Schönbrunn ist in dieser Hinsicht sehr erfolgreich – seit 1994 gibt es unter den Krauskopfpelikanen regelmäßig Nachwuchs, was der umsichtigen Pflege zu verdanken ist.
