Reflection Hunters Contest Round 105 - my Entry "Church of St. Charles Reflection"

Participating in the Shadow Contest also drew my attention to the Reflections Contest, and I immediately thought of a few photos I took earlier that fit into this category. So I rummaged through my photo collection again and found what I thought was a suitable picture.

My entry-photo and the 2 additional ones (which I have attached out of competition) show the Karlskirche (Church of St. Charles) in Resselpark. The church was built under the famous baroque architect Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and completed in 1739. The church stands on the southern side of the so called Karlsplatz near Vienna's city center and is one of the most important baroque church buildings in Central Europe and a symbol of Vienna. It has a huge green dome and two striking relief columns flanking the church.

The photos were taken during a late evening walk across Karlsplatz. I was fascinated by the whole atmosphere back then - the wonderfully lit church that was reflected in the pond in front of the church and the moon that shone through the cloud cover. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture the whole church, including the reflection and the mood of the moon, in a single picture. Irrespective of this, the Karlskirche is always a wonderful photo motif.

Durch die Teilnahme am Schattenwettbewerb bin ich auch auf den Reflections Contest aufmerksam geworden und mir sind sofort ein paar Fotos eingefallen, die ich früher gemacht habe und die in diese Kategorie passen. Also habe ich wieder einmal in meiner Fotosammlung gestöbert und ein meiner Meinung nach passendes Bild gefunden.

Mein Eingangsfoto und die 2 weiteren (die ich außer Konkurrenz beigefügt habe) zeigen die Karlskirche im Resselpark. Erbaut wurde die Kirche unter dem berühmten Barockarchitekten Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach und wurde 1739 fertiggestellt. Die Kirche steht an der Südseite des Karlsplatzes nahe der Wiener Innenstadt und ist einer der bedeutendsten barocken Kirchenbauten Mitteleuropas und ein Wahrzeichen Wiens. Sie hat eine riesige grüne Kuppel und zwei markante Reliefsäulen, die die Kirche flankieren.

Die Fotos sind bei einem spätabendlichen Spaziergang über den Karlsplatz entstanden. Mich hat die ganze Atmosphäre damals fasziniert – die wunderbar beleuchtete Kirche, die sich im Teich vor der Kirche spiegelte und der Mond, der durch die Wolkendecke schien. Die ganze Kirche samt Spiegelung und der Mondstimmung konnte ich leider nicht auf einem einzigen Bild festhalten. Unabhängig davon, ist die Karlskirche immer ein wunderschönes Fotomotiv.
