Hive from a year-long experience

I don’t presume to know enough about Hive or how it works to teach someone else how to use it. But I’ve been around for close to a year and I can share from my experiences somethings that work and somethings that don’t.

As the caption on my thumbnail reads, there’s no secret ingredient to succeeding on Hive. Everyone would be making thousands of dollars already if there was.

But even if something has worked for someone, there’s no guarantee it’ll work for you. That is not to say that you can’t learn to improve your blogs by incorporating some things by more experienced Hivers. Which brings me to the point…

Be original, be different, be you!

Trying to replicate what someone else is doing just makes you a wannabe. And trust me, if you have plans of getting recognized, you don’t want it to be as the wannabe.

So instead, Identify what you do best and do it as best as you can. Even if you don’t see results, don’t stop. Keep doing it. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will attention and support from the community.

Be foresighted about everything.

Why I’m saying this is because there’s something on Hive called reputation. And whiles many people tell you it’s not the number next to your username, I don’t agree entirely.

What I will say though is that it’s a combination of both your real reputation (who the community sees you to be) and the number next to your name. But it’s more about who the community sees you to be.

How are the two related?

Who you’re perceived to be by the community influences how the community treats and engaged with you. And considering that your reputation (the number next to your username) depends on the community’s engagement with you through upvotes, there’s the connection between the two. So having a bigger number next to your name could suggest that you’re in a good standing with the community, or that you have been in a good standing with the community. That is not always the case though.

So think about everything you do before you do them and be aware that everything you do has consequences.

Value attracts money. Focus on providing value!

The mistake that a lot of people make when they just join Hive is that instead of worrying about how to create good content that’ll be of value, they worry about why they’re not getting rewards.

Value attracts money. This is pure business logic. If you’re not selling something people want to buy, they sure as hell won’t give you their money. It just makes sense.

What you decide to share about doesn’t have to be spectacular. It just has to be…something of value, whatever that might be.

Build connections

We always say that Hive is different from other social media platforms. But the fact that it’s still a social platform means that there’s still common grounds of thriving through interactions.

Engaging with the people here is how you make friends.

And on the subject of engaging with people, don’t force yourself. If you don’t like someone’s content, don’t force yourself to leave comments on it because of reasons like the person has a fat wallet for instance, or because you want them to like you. In most cases, that’ll just come off as begging for votes, because if you really aren’t interested in what they posted, your comment will reveal it. I don’t know about other people, but I can tell when someone either hasn’t read the post before leaving a comment, or is just leaving the comment for commenting sake.

And if you do comment on someone’s posts, reply and make conversations if possible, as that’s how you actually connect with people aside what you read in their posts.

Like I already mentioned, I’m no expert at all things Hive. In fact quite contrary, I’m very much a beginner making mistakes like you, learning lessons and improving daily. But the things I talked about in this post are MY experience and I hope that you can learn a thing or two from it.

Sometimes you read someone’s post and you’re left wondering if this is even worth reading cos there’s nothing fun about it. Some people just post for the rewards when in actual sense their post is meant to attract the reader and make them want more.

I guess with time some of these things will change.

I think most newbies make this rookie mistake before they learn. It’s ironic how in order to make any real rewards on your post, you have to capture people’s interest first. Takes a while for them to learn this, but if you stay around for a bit long enough, you eventually do.

You hit the ground running because your first post was original, well written and absolutey authentic. Then you engaged and joined in. If there is a 'secret' formula, you just got it from day1.

Anyway. Enough compliments. I'm obviously getting soft in my old age. Have a great weekend :-)

Haha...its not the beer, its the weed! In Thailand, where weed is now decriminalised, there are more weed shops than convenience stores so everyone steps off the boat on the island and becomes instantly chilled out because ofbthe scent ofbthe weed that hamgs in the air! If every country decriminalised weed, there would be no more wars and everyone would simply walk around with a huge silly grins on their faces hugging one another! Come here, let me give my star boy a big hug lol :-)
