Mothers: The Unsung Heroes of Our Every Day Life

It was International Women's Day two days ago and I used that opportunity to celebrate all the women out there. If you missed that post, you can check it out HERE. So today, I would love pause whatever it is we are doing and turn our hearts towards the most extraordinary figures in our lives—mothers. It's their day today and I have decided to celebrate them in my own little way.

Mother's Day isn't just another day on the calendar, it is a day set aside to celebrate the unsung heroines of our every day lives. And so, we will be celebrating all mothers today for their impact on the lives of each and everyone of us.

You will all agree with me that the strength of a mother cannot be compared to anything in this world right? Please know that it is not only in the physical labor of childbirth or the tireless days and sleepless nights of early parenthood that there strength is at work, but it is at work in the resilience of holding a home together, the courage in letting go when it’s time for us to spread our wings, and the wisdom to guide us back when we lose our way.

So today, we will honoring the sacrifices that every mother out there makes out of love. We will be recognizing the sacrifices that we often do not notice and most of the time, we don't thank them for it. I would love each and everyone of us to take time to recognize those silent meals they prepare day in day out, the unseen tears they shed when they are worrying about us, the countless hours of support and encouragement, the countless hours they spend talking to God on our behalf and what about the endless supply of unconditional love?

I have come to know that being a mother means that you will have to experience the extremes of emotion, feel the deepest love and even the most challenging trials, and yet, in all these, you will still emerge with a heart still open and willing to give more. I believe you would all agree with me that this is something that's unique about mothers right?

Now, motherhood isn't a one size fits all kind of thing and I would love us to acknowledge that today. We should know that there is no manual on motherhood, and this means that there is no right or wrong way to navigate. Mothers just have to figure it out theirselves. The truth remains that what works for one family may not actually work for another, and that's fine. This is why each mother writes her own story that is guided by love, and fueled by the hope of giving her children a better tomorrow.

On this Mother's Day, I would love us to go beyond the flowers and the cards. Let us try as much as possible to give our mothers the gift of time, appreciation, and understanding. Let us listen to their stories, laugh at their jokes, and hold them a little tighter, because the love of a mother is a precious gift that has and will continue to shape our lives in so many unfathomable ways.

To my precious mother, I want to say a big thank you to you. Thank you for your love, your sacrifice, and your unwavering belief in me. You are the architects of the future, the heart of the family, and the soul of our home. I celebrate and honour you today as I thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing a good job in making me who I am today.

Happy Mother's Day Mum and to all mothers out there. May you continue to feel the love you have so freely given. May that love be returned to you a hundredfold and more today and always. Amen.
