My health needs some changes

AmazonLilies_Julio2023.jpg

These days my balcony is looking cheerful.
My Amazon Lilies have started to bloom. Aren't they gorgeous?

It's been a week since my last post. I haven't had much head to sit down to write. The last few days, I've been with tests and medical checkups.

Lately, my blood pressure has been a little high, and that set off my alarm bells. We noticed it a few weeks ago when I went to the hematologist for a check-up. I still don't have the results of the tests to determine if I have a problem with my blood clotting. But the other tests I had for my check-up with the cardiologist have determined that I have high blood sugar.

The first moment is a big shock. But it was something I could have expected after the heart attack I had last year. Diabetes has been in my family for several generations. I guess genetics plays a big part in all of this. My grandmother, my mother's mother, was diabetic, and also my father, who had heart disease at a very young age, had type 2 diabetes.

However, to say it is one thing and to assimilate it is another. But what is true is that I have to make major changes in my lifestyle and diet without any delay.

I have never been an overweight person. I love fruits and vegetables. But now I have to be rigorous with the schedule of my meals. I admit I have always been disorderly, especially with breakfast. I have never been a breakfast lover, and I don't mind skipping it. But the doctor has told me that I can not skip it anymore. Even more, I should try to eat five times a day. Of course, no salt and no sugar.

I can't feed my sweet tooth except on very special occasions. So I will leave you all the chocolate bars, Super Ed @tengolotodo. So far my snacks will be more like fruits and yogurt.

Milo_Yogur.jpg

But I will have to share my yogurt with Milo, who as soon as he smells it begins claiming to get his ration. 😹

More exercise and less blogging

Those were my husband's words as we got in the car after the check-up with the cardiologist. And while of course, I'm not going to give up blogging and Hive. I must lead a less sedentary lifestyle. Now it's not enough that I walk a few days a week when I go with my friends to hike in the mountains. The challenge ahead of me is to exercise every day. Yesterday, for example, it rained most of the afternoon and my friends canceled the date to go to the mountain. As soon as the rain gave me a break, I went to the nearest park and walked 3 kilometers.

Fungis_Vizcaya.jpg

The rain had caused fungus to sprout on the vegetation. These on this log looked very cool to me. From a distance, it looks like there is something engraved on the trunk.

So, the cards are dealt with, and it is up to me to take it very seriously and change what needs to be changed to take care of my health. As they say, there is no best asset than good health.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!

Oh, these days people I know were into a healthy lifestyle , I mean trying to be.
An officemate told me that mostly, this not so good news about health started in the 40's. So she kept on reminding me to be mindful on what I ate now that I am in my 30s 🤣.

More healthy meal for you then and Kuya Ed, lol don't know when he gonna stop eating chocolates 🍫🍫.

I eat quite healthily, that is, I like vegetables and fruits a lot. But I like meat and I will try to eliminate it at least at first, and eat more fish. My biggest problem is that I am messy with mealtimes, but that has to change. Also less time on the computer and more exercise. And your friend is right, watch what you eat now while you are still young.

Super Ed has to be careful with all those chocolates hehe.

Ah mealtimes, perhaps you need to set an alarm always. Time to prepare food, so you won't be eating late.

Same, I love fruits and vegetables, but not meat . I am okay even without it 🤣. Just my problem is most of the time I am too lazy to prepare food 🤣. Guessed because I am alone most of the time. So would ended up buying , usually ended on more carbs food 😬.
That exercise too , lol I can't keep it up.

My mealtimes problems are often related to being lazy to prepare food, hehe. And I love rice and pasta, which are not recommended carbs :(
And the other thing is that we love going out to eat, but that will have to be restricted to once every two weeks, and choose carefully what to eat.

Oh the rice and pasta same sentiments 🤣.
I am living in the motto rice is life.

Hehe, btw it's avocado and dragon fruit season here in my country and maybe in yours too. I think this suited for you 😁

I love avocado and it's something I can eat. I could have 🥑 every day, hehe. But here it is rare to find dragon fruit. But in general, I can eat any fruit, of course, the sweeter ones in moderation

I've been doing an active lifestyle lately. Yes to exercise daily. I have joint pain near my hip area on the left, the same pain I had when I was pregnant. I'm trying my best to do stretching or yoga. My husband and I have bikes to bike to the park with the kids. I also go to Youtube for zumba workout. Hehe!

Staying active is the best thing you can do. I have thought about doing yoga, I would like pilates but here pilates sessions are very expensive. You have given me a good idea with the zumba on youtube, hehe. Thanks :)

Please take as much rest as you can and swipe out all worries (though we may see it as part of human factor, but we can develop a defense mechanism where they no longer have stronghold on our thoughts). As you have rightly quoted, 'there's no best asset than good health'. I for one believe that every healing begins in the mind, once we can envision it, our body channels an energy to attaining it. Wish you quick and sound recovery

Hope you'll be better soon Eli... It isn't easy to deal such illness.. You need to start living a healthy lifestyle from now on. You can try yoga meditation even inside your home....

I don't know why a lot of people take breakfast for granted .. As for me, it's the most important meal than dinner..I can skip dinner, but not breakfast....

Thank you, Jane!
Breakfast is important. I remember when we were kids, my mom, never let us go to school without breakfast. But then in my college years and when I started working, many times in a hurry I would skip it, and it was a bad habit that I got into.
I am going to try yoga at home. Thanks 🤗

Students and working people usually have that habit... But when I worked here in HK, I realized how important breakfast is since I work physically the whole day....

Oh my... Sorry to hear about your health issues sis. I hope you will be able to do what your physician says. Eating on time and not skipping meals can be challenging especially when you are so used to it but that has to change indeed. And sadly, the sweets have to go but all for your betterment :)

It looks like all kind of health issues start to surface as we grow older. We need to look after ourselves and our bodies more and more.

Check out YouTube for intermittent fasting and keto for the high sugar Eli. Might not be your cup of tea, but I hear it’s good to lower sugar levels.

Exercising is sure a good advice for anyone. I started exercising more these days too, as while I sweat my brain is taking a break from racing thoughts and anxiety. Dropping a few kg will also be beneficial for me.

I’m sure you’ll still find time for blogging too 💙

As my grandmother would have said, the years are unforgiving;)
I will look into it, but intermittent fasting is contraindicated to what my doctor ordered me to do.
I have to exercise a lot more and maybe I should resume the actifit posts with my alt to stimulate me, hehe.
Hugs, dear Monika 💙

It is not fun at all, I have had many experiences in my family of one type or another, and the truth is that the best prognosis is for those who take the most care of themselves. So there is not much to think about it, but rather to act.
Have a good Friday, Super Ed 🌀💙

Eating breakfast try plain yogurt with berries apparently that helps lower blood sugar level my dog loves yogurt as well, I crumble a wheat breakfast biscuit in as well (called Weetbix here).

Caught in a similar dilemma where doctor said the sugar was high, fasting test every morning sugar was jumping from high to low, now appears to be stable once again. Testing device is not exceptionally expensive to obtain, the test strips and lancets are over here, purchase by shopping around.

Find a balance where your sugar levels even out, getting old is not for the feint of heart it is controlling these problems, good luck!

I have one of those devices at home, I just have to buy the bands that are out of date. It's a good idea to have it on hand.

Good article... It's always a headache to deal with health problems (I've been suffering from fibromyalgia for years)... But you always have to step up and try to be as well as possible! After all (and this is going to sound strange like almost everything I say).... One of these days we will leave behind this "sack of bones and thoughts" and the important thing is to have used it as well as possible! .... ;)

On the other hand... Awwww It's a blessing to watch Milo eating yogourt!.... Bello!!! . 😹. 😹. 😹

That's right my friend, we always have to stay one step ahead and not lose our positive mindset. I am sorry you have to deal with fibromyalgia, I know it is a challenging condition and not well understood in general.

And yes, live as well as possible and make the best of it.

And Milo says thank you so much for the compliments, hehe 😻🐱

I wish you a speedy recovery @coquicoin. Managing such a condition is not easy. You need to start living a healthier lifestyle. I've been feeling queasy as a result of my vertigo. It's a good thing I came upon certain workouts I saw on FB reels and tried them out on myself; it worked! Most of the illnesses that our parents have oftentimes pass on to us as we grow older. Take precautions and listen to your doctor's advice. God speed. 💕
