This week prompt is quite different and very crucial and I must say it ahead to you could save yourself from any future bad occurrence that may have a bad impact to you HIVE journey. For this week’s newbie initiative task, I'm gonna be sharing some detailed informations on HIVE KEYS, SECURITY. I hope you gain something from this post and most importantly take something from here.

Hive Keys

These Hive keys which I would be explaining after are encrypted passcodes every Hive users own that used for different purposes. Every hivean are entitled to five (5) different which are OWNER, ACTIVE, POSTING, MEMO, MASTER. I would be stating the key below and as well as explaining its efficacy.

Private Key

  • OWNER KEY
    The most potent key is capable of altering every key associated with an account, even its own.
    Uses
    Change Password || Change Keys || Recover Account

  • ACTIVE KEY
    On the Hive blockchain, An active key which also refers to as private key, enables the owner to vote for witnesses, move payments, and do other operations that require more than basic rights. It's a more powerful key than the posting key, so keep it safe and only share it with trustworthy individuals or programs.
    Uses
    Transfer Funds || Power up/down || Voting Witnesses/Proposals

  • POSTING KEY
    On Hive, By simply reading the word "posting," you would be aware of its purpose and significance of the posting key. The posting key is intended to be used more frequently than the active key and can be used to communicate with the Hive blockchain.
    Uses
    Post || Comment || Vote || Reblog || Follow || Profile

  • MEMO KEY
    A memo key is a private key that is used to encrypt and decrypt memos associated with transactions, on Hive the account owner can configure the memo key, which is an optional key.
    Uses
    Send || View encrypted messages on transfers

WHERE TO USE YOUR KEYS

Hive Keychain and Hive Signer should allow you to do transactions on all Hive sites and applications.

SECURITY

This section where is going to be covering the reasons why the account gets hacked and how you can secure your hive keys and as well as a short pictorial tutorial on where and how to find your hive key, and without fuda-Adu let's get right into it.

  • Account Hacking Causes

Ignorance: Many times we see disturbing information that we are not aware of or might not be heard of maybe it is a virus or malware or a spam message and instead of going to seek the help of those who have more knowledge about it we excuse it and end up falling into a trap.

Mishandling of Hive keys; This is most common amongst newbies and should be taken seriously, IT IS NOT EVERY PERSON OR ORGANIZATION THAT ASKS FOR YOUR KEYS THAT YOU SHARE, It's important to note that anyone with access to the active key can perform actions on behalf of the account, so it's essential to keep the key secure and only use it when necessary.

  • How to secure Hive Key
    Hive Keychain: Users can safely store and manage their Hive account keys, which are necessary to complete transactions on the Hive blockchain, with the help of Hive Keychain. Users no longer have to manually enter their private keys each time they want to access their Hive accounts to carry out tasks like voting, posting, commenting, exchanging money, and more thanks to Hive Keychain. This makes using the Hive blockchain considerably more convenient and safe.

Pictorial explanation on how to find the Hive key.
