Raymondspeaks recommends TV

Hey all. We thought it nice if I start writing a recommended blog since I'm such a big fan of Film and TV. What better than to kick off today with a fresh slice of what I've been currently watching. I won't spoil anything for you, so don't worry.

The Foundation

The future of Mankind, expressed in numbers.

In the far far future, mankind has populated the stars. People sit around the fireplace and talk about the beginning where it all began on a place called "Earth." We are talking about so far in the future that our minds cannot comprehend the time that has passed.

Our story starts off with a young lady called Gaal, we are presented with a scene from a world not unlike a clip from waterworld. A water planet, where her people have abandoned the old ways of science and she must flee because now the locals hate her for daring to attempt to dabble in the dark craft of science, and now she is only days away from arrest.

Our naive young Hero, Gaal entered a competition to solve one of the hardest and most intricate equations known to man, and yet, she solved it. We leave her as she jets off to the centre world of "The Empire," waved away by a tearsome mother and father to meet the famed Hari Seldon who will have her as his young apprentice.

Hari Seldon, a brilliant man of psychohistory, a part of history that crunches up big data to predict future events has a plan for the young Gaal, as we see in the scenes before she arrives...

The foundation is a masterstroke in television

Based on the books by Isaac Asimov this piece of television is probably one of the best I have seen in the last several years. Probably the best since the Battlestar Gallactica revision. It perfectly blends history, rebellion, Politics, psychology and sci-fi all neatly wrapped in one bundle. Maybe I so passionately enjoy it because everything that is presented in The Foundation is part of all my interests. It is not only brilliantly acted but expertly produced as well. I just hope that it stays true to the novels and doesn't get too-big-for-its-boots like the TV series Game of Thrones did with its poorly cobbled together ending. Time will tell. So far, it's doing a good job.

I cannot express what a delight this series was by falling into my inbox late a few weeks ago. My gut feeling was to roll my eyes and think, "Oh no, not another sci-fi series that tries to ram "the message" down our throats whilst at the same time trying to educate us all on how big pieces of shits we are for daring to exist." We saw Doctor Who go that way, and most of Star Wars. I dare to say I have PTSD from watching "the message" so bluntly forced into sci-fi as of late. There was none, though, and that was so-so refreshing to enjoy a series without having to worry when I was going to be lectured.

The Story has depth

The brilliant thing about series' in sci-fi is that there are endless possibilities to create new episodes if you have good enough writers. Star Trek Strange New Worlds just finished an episode last week where they encountered a sub-space anomaly that made them all sing when their emotions became too tense. So simple, yet brilliant. This brilliance pays off with every episode of the Foundation. Each one a new and exciting fragment of the expanding known universe. From new religions, to new technology, each and every episode will have you gasping for more; to see what happened, and also to know what happens next.

The Politics in this series is definitely expertly crafted. From devious side dealings, to outright treason. When you meet "Empire" you will relish in the fact that they are every bit like Royalty of the past as we known them; deeply clouded by their arrogance, but with profound insight that will have you wondering "damn, how did they figure this out?" Underestimate Empire as a silly stupid Royal at your peril because each and every episode where they play a part in you will be at one moment having deep respect for him, but at the very next hating even the ground that he stands on.

The foundation is done so well that they cloud the morals in this story. There is no good or bad, only actions that lead to consequences. You will be wondering every epsiode who the real bad guys are. A man who wants to serve and protect his empire and make it right for his people? Or the man that wants to set history on a good path; saving all that is around him from his predicted doom. In this series actions lead to consequences and you are forever wondering who the real hero's are. Are they all just fallable like you and I?

Sheer brilliance.

I recommend you watch it now.

If you are a connoisseur of sci-fi classics then stop what you are doing and go and try it. If you have an hour to spare fire up your apple TV and go and give it a try.

You will not be disappointed.

I had to do this review to find out that it was a series of books. I found out that star wars was borne out of it too. Amazing
