Battle Mages Secrets: Walk the Thorny path!

Hello everyone, This is @cantfoldaces participating in the Weekly Battle Mage Secrets Challenge, in the best #play2earn game out there!! #Splinterlands!!

Lately I had a packed up week with a lot of battles on the Splinterlands field, and believe me, the competition on Silver League is beyond insane! Like I can easily go on a 7-battles loss streak just because my deck is not complete for a given Element or because of some RNG misses (to be fair my deck isn't at the level to compete for top leaderboard)

Description
  • All units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back.
  • Melee attack units with the Reflection Shield ability do not take damage from thorns. The Amplify ability increases damage.

The Thorns ability is so fun to play around and its been one of my favourite abilities in the game, althought I used to have Mylor because of the inplayable low mana battles when facing it!

Regarding the nature of this Ruleset, it's only logical to put Ranged / Magic Damage monsters into the action, but sometimes, dropping some Melee monsters will not be regrettable since the benefits are superior to risks

In this case, Shield & Enrage are 2 abilities that makes reap the benefits with the contrast of having to face Thorns, so without further ado, let's get starting:

  • Mid Mana Cap 32 Mana
  • All Elements available except Life
  • Briar Patch as the Sole Ruleset

So I had the intention to go with this Team:

CardsAbilityDescription
-1 Magic Damage
-1 Health
My choice was to go for the Death Element since it's known for its Debuffs especially the magic Damage since I won't be having a frontliner that can withstand Magic Damage
ThornsIf you might ask me why I chosen a monster with an innate thorns damage, I would ask yoy to check his insane 11 Health, great Speed, and 3 Melee Damage that makes for a decent frontliner despite all conditions
Life Leech
Poison
A great monster for 4 Mana, This rat is perfect for its low mana and big utility as a secondary tank and Poison inflicter in case we faced a strong tank!

Weapons Training AbusersI won't be naming all abilities since what Matters is:
- Zyriel will buff both attackless monsters with 3 Ranged Damage Totalling: 9 Ranged Damage every Round
- Riftwing acn take the place of the Tank with its scavenging Health, Flying and Backfire damage
- Will-o-Wisp is great in term of speed at it can fire it shots since the beggining of each round with less chances to miss its newly acquired weapon!

Round 1 Pre buffs/Debuffs

image.png

Facing a pretty straight forward team as I expected to face some magic damage monsters that their damage was fortunately nerfed by Thaddius Brood
Enemy Team Upcoming Damage: 4 Magic Damage + 1 Ranged Damage = 5 Total Damage
Ally Team Upcoming Damage: 1 Magic Damage + 9 Ranged Damage + 3 Melee Damage =

13 Total Damage

Round 1

image.png

Nothing much happened on this round as Venari Marksrat was mercilessly eliminated by the newly trained monsters.
On the other side, Cursed windeku was tanking all the damage, let's be carefull from misses on a Martyred Oshannus!

Round 2

image.png

Oshannus was rended a joke as it was fast forward eliminated by the new trainee on the field! What an insane amount of Damage and that spee prio !
And what a well place Poison on Nerissa Tridawn from the one and only Venari!
Unfortunately, Cursed Windeku couldn't survive long against multiple magic received damage!

Round 3

Capture d'écran 2024-01-28 134440.png
The carnage continues as Nerissa got stomped by the Riftwing + Will-o-Wisp combination!
Merdalii armor was useless against Venari one shot magic bolt!
The battle is pretty much over with only 2 lone monsters with a lone health!

Round 4 & End of Game

It didn't take much for this round to cling the victory and enjoy my spoil of wars consisting of 10 Trophies + 0.654 SPS

After-Battle commentary

My picks choice was right on place as I've delt tons of damage while having a not-so-high Mana cap. On that occassion, I can't stres on how Over-Powered Weapons Training has become allowing for a massive damage output despite the low mana usage! It just becomes more oppressive if a couple of Weapon Training monsters were put together!
