Dream Big, work hard till your idols become your rivals
As humans, we tend to adapt to the kind of life we find ourselves in, we never miss the life we never had, a person living in a ghetto can never miss the luxurious lifestyle because he has never experienced it and he will be pleased in the ghetto that he is because our state of mind determines our happiness.
Such is my case but I won't call where I grew up a ghetto, it was a rural area, I was just a young boy living a carefree life with his Pa and Ma, without goals nor dreams, I just went to school, eat and play all day.
I was enjoying life with friends and nothing changed until I graduated from secondary school in 2011, I decided to travel for the first time since I got to the rural area in 2001.
I visited my cousin who lives in Ibadan to spend 2 weeks with her, this was also my first time traveling inter-state, this journey changed a lot of things in my life.
It changed my view, and mindset, and the best thing the journey gave me was a dream.
When I got there, I started seeing tech and things I had never seen before, first was their flat-screen TV and speakers, then their AC, I had a room to myself to sleep which had never happened before because at home, I shared a bed with my brothers and we always jampack on a single bed which I grow to love too, but having a bigger bed to myself makes me feel like a King and I enjoyed my sleep.
It was also at her place I first entered a motor with Ac, which was her husband's car.
One day, we were coming from church when the husband parked to get some snacks for us and that was the opportunity my cousin needed to advise me.
She must have observed that I was experiencing a lot of things for the first time in their place and she asked me if I was enjoying my stay which I answered affirmative.
She asked me what I thought about them, are they rich? I said they were very rich and I wished to have a life like them, that is when she burst my bubble saying they were not rich but only comfortable.
The things I see in their life are normal things the elite have in their homes to make it comfortable for them, she added that they are living in a rented apartment, then she told me about one of her friends we visited and how the husband used to travel to foreign countries every week and the big house we went to was just one of his houses in the estate and she termed that being rich.
She asked me not to wish for their life but should dream bigger and want more, I put all her advice in my left palm so I wouldn't use it to eat.
A Few days after, I started missing home and I told her I wanted to return, she was like so fast, am I not enjoying my stay but that would be a lie if I said I did not enjoy my stay in her place but I am missing home and need to go.
I was happy to reunite with my family a few days later but I regretted my decision to leave my cousin that same day, At night I was unable to sleep because of mosquitoes singing in my ears whereas my brothers were sleeping peacefully, I wondered if they did not feel the mosquito bite but then I was like that few weeks ago too xd, I was no longer used to this life at home and I wish to go back to my cousins place but not possible since I Just returned.lol
I have tasted a better life and I am now missing it, the dreams she planted in my heart made it impossible for me to remain at home, the next day I told my mum I wanted to leave, that was how I left home to live with my sister in another town and that was the beginning of a new life for me...
My cousin's advice ignited the fire inside me, It woke up the sleeping lion and here I am still dreaming big and with no rest till all my idols become my rivals.

Very fascinating. They usually say that many of those who grew up in comfortable homes always lag behind because they are used to the comfort but those who didn't grow up in comfort always grasp their opportunities with two hands.

This is why I don’t really see someone traveling outside the country a big deal
It’s a normal thing, lol even though I don’t have the money
I usually feel they just want to start a life and be able to survive and not a big deal like that
it is very normal but because of the economy of Nigeria where the masses do not have money to do it, it becomes a big deal for some who were able to do it
This kind of experiences always expose us to the bigger world and make us realize what we may have been missing. Now, we have something bigger to aim for and work towards, which also makes us get serious about our life :)
That is it.... the more we explore the world, the more new things we are exposed to and we start to desire those things for ourself
There is a saying: ¨If you dream it is possible¨. With effort and dedication you can achieve your goals. It is valid for everyone to think about having a better life, and for that we must be positive and work on it.
If you feel good at home and comfortable consider yourself very lucky, however it is not bad to think big. Good publication. Best regards.
