Wonderful time to get old.

I am so thankful that I live in the time do.

I went to visit my mother today. She will be 90 in March. Buy she is newly into a seniors complex. Housing. After a stint of hospital stays.

Up until then she was spending her time staying with her two daughters. Splitting time.

But now they are trying her in a "home".

She does have a phone in her room, she does have a cell phone. A flip phone not a smart phone.

In her early 80's we managed to get her on Facebook and got her a laptop. But that ended up being used for simple games.

The family is hoping she will get use to the home. Learn to go out of her room, go to the common areas. There are people she knows there. She just had to wrap her head around the fact that she has to give it a chance.

If not, we'll, we will take her out and she will live with her daughters again.

What is the world does this have to do with Hive?

Wonderful time to get old.

I am 55. I am sure my senior years are going to creep up on me fast. I can only hope to hit 90 years. My father did 93, my mother almost 90.

So let's say 30 years from now. If I make it to 85 and my health is starting to fail. If I have no one to look after me, or I don't want to burden anyone. I will end up in a home.

But I am a different, vastly different generation than my parents. Due to technological change.

I don't believe I will be sitting in a room with nothing to do beside reflecting on what life has become. That I am dying. That I am no good to anyone.

No. I will grab my phone, computer, or what ever the input device is in 30 years and start socializing with the Hive and/or what type of community is around.

Not only that, the online interaction should keep me mentally healthy. I will want to socialize with others in person.

I don't want to be like a lot of seniors I see today. I won't be. And maybe with my attitude and technology I will have truly Golden years.

Thoughts?

I think it's a great point that with technology we can continue to contribute to (online) society until we reach old age. Whether that be programming, blogging or something else. I think too that diet and exercise are important to maintain mental health as we grow older.

I'm right there with ya Bradley. I wake up real early in the morning to workout to grow old gracefully and in much control of my faculties as possible, but when that time comes that I can't and my wife is not able to take care of me or vice versa with modern technology and as it continues to evolve it bodes well for us when we get into those very twilight years.
