#threetunetuesday: VACATION!

As I sit here at my campsite in the Northern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, I can't tell you how good it feels to be on vacation. I have been here less than 24 hours and I have already sat around a campfire, played 18 holes of disc golf, and I still have two more days to go!

It's been really great so far and my nephew seems to be having a really good time. I'll be doing a full post on the campground where we are staying at a later time. For now, you will just have to settle for the opening photo.

It's another Tuesday again, and that means it is time for a #threetunetuesday sponsored by @ablaze. This is a really great initiative because it allows me the opportunity to share some music with all of you. Sometimes songs you have heard a million times, and other times tunes which may have never crossed your radar.

Since I am on vacation this week, I am going to stick with a definite theme. A couple might be on the nose, but I am going to avoid at least one that I know has been shared already before.

So here we go!

If you are a child of the 80's, then you most likely know and love the Go Go's. I have always been a fan of their sound and let's be honest, who doesn't like a good all girl group.

Plus, if we didn't have the Go Go's, we might not have the solo career of the great Belinda Carlisle. I mean, that's enough right there isn't it?

This is the song that fits the best for this weeks theme. You might think I would follow it up with something like "Holiday" by Madonna, but that is the one that I know one of my Hive friends has shared already. Instead, I am going to take things in a more modern direction.

Let me give you just a few more minutes to bask in the awesomeness that is the Go Go's...................

If you know me, you know that I am a huge fan of Counting Crows. While I still think their freshman album is by far their best, the Hard Candy Album would come in at a close second. It has so many good songs on it that I just love.

It actually feels like I am hearing them again for the first time every time I hear them. There is just something magical about the instrumentation and the lyrics that lets them stand above a lot of their other work.

"Holiday in Spain" is a perfect example of that and part of the reason it easily sits in the top ten of my favorite Counting Crows songs.

I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Finally, I am going to leave you with this classic song from the Beach Boys. My father and my sister are huge Beach Boys fans. I basically grew up listening to them, so it only felt right that I include this one.

I remember this song was a bit of an attempt for the Beach Boys to "re-invent" themselves. It got included on the Cocktail soundtrack (that movie with Tom Cruise), and it was also included for a little bit on Full House until they started playing that "Forever" song.

Good old Uncle Jesse knew what he was talking about given his love for the Beach Boys. While I am nowhere near a tropical destination, I am still in that kind of relaxed state that I am sure you can find in Kokomo.

I know this is a bit of a short post today, and I apologize for that, but my nephew is up and fed and ready to take on some new adventures!

The Go-Go's take the cake on this one! The Beach Boys a strong second, and Counting Crows ain't too shabby. Those are some great picks!

I hope you have an awesome time! I was hoping to see some aurora this week, but it doesn't look like that will happen. Caught a crazy sunset last night though.

Enjoyed the Counting Crows not having heard them previously. Beach Boys a golden oldie many will recognize from Disco days, not too sure about the Go Go girls... not bad!

Enjoy the time away, sounds like you having a blast!

Always pleasant to listen to music you have not tumbled onto yet. Life is too short not to have fun!

All good songs, except..... I really really hate Kokomo. I love the early Beach Boys but the current Beach Boys is not them, it's just "Mike Love and band". What Mike Love did to Brian Wilson was unforgivable. I'm sure you know all about that story. Most of the music industry considers Love just about the biggest asshole around, and for good reason. Kokomo was after Love had basically stolen the Beach Boys and remade them in his own image, getting rid of all the more experimental stuff that he always hated and returning to "beach and babe songs" in his words. Kokomo does have a nice groove, I give you that, but I just find I can't separate the song from the man.

But your other songs are great 😃

Hope you enjoy your vacation!

It was more of my dad and sisters thing. I don't know as though I ever really got into more of the experimental stuff. My two favorite songs are God Only Knows and Don't Worry Baby. Anything beyond that is just good nostalgia for me. My wife can't stand the Beach Boys, so they don't get much playtime in our house :) I understand what you are saying though.

God Only Knows was one of the songs Mike Love hated 😃 He really disliked doing the Pet Sounds sessions, complaining constantly about "experimental shit" and badmouthing Brian the entire time, calling him a no talent bum. Basically as soon as Brian started his competition with the Beatles which led him to move away from beach songs, Love got angry and started fighting with him. It's really too bad. The Beatles had John and Paul both supporting each other and pushing each other to be better. Brian was arguably more talented than either one, but he had no Paul or John to make him even better, he just had Love to constantly criticize him, eventually pulling him down into his mental problems.

Shame your wife can't stand them. Pet Sounds is usually listed among the top 10 of best albums ever on most lists, and for good reason. I listen to it at least once a year. Brian Wilson's later release of Smile with his own band was also really good.

I will have to check it out. I think I have Endless Summer. I can't remember. I lost all my album covers when our basement flooded, but I do have one Beach Boys album on vinyl. 50's and 60's music is what I grew up on, so that stuff really feeds my soul when I hear it. It centers me in a way that other music can't

I love the UP. A long time ago I got a job there for a little while and was seriously impressed with how lovely that part of the world is. A real hidden gem if you ask me and I am surprised that it isnt' more famous on a national level.

By the way I had already read your water damage problems before I read this part... at least it started out ok!

I'm glad that it isn't as well known. I mean it is a huge area, but I'd hate to see more people there than there already is. We love going up there.

Yeah, i suppose it is a lot better to keep it a secret but isn't it quite far from a major airport anyway? That'll keep the riff raff out of the UP

Yeah, probably the closest ones are Traverse City, Gaylord, and Milwaukee.

To be totally honest man, I enjoy posts around this length, as I have lots of different authors I want to stop in on, and I don't always have enough time, so quick punchy posts are right up my street and no issues in my book.

Sounds like the vacation was exactly what you needed and glad to hear your nephew had a great time too, loving the tunes, especially Counting Crows, who you know I am a big fan of too, nice one man.
