Golden Oldies a #threetunetuesday post

Given the way the markets are behaving lately, it's safe to say that lots of people have riches on their mind. I remembered I picked up a big bag of these Hershey chocolates the other day and I realized that I just had to get a photo of some of them for a post.

I also got thinking I am going to need to make sure I have some of these sitting around (fresh, don't worry) next Christmas for the #silvergoldstackers secret santa exchange. I've seen a few people send Andes and those pirate coins that are (low quality) chocolate covered in gold foil, but what could be better than getting some gold and silver nuggets along with your other precious metals.

Keeping with the theme of nuggets, I also took some photos of the chicken nuggets I had Sunday for lunch. I am going to save those for a different post though.

Actually, nuggets aren't even the theme for this weeks @threetunetuesday post sponsored by @ablaze. Instead, I am going with a theme that is a bit more relevant to what we have been going through the past week.

With BTC approaching near record highs, many people are thinking back to the good old days of 2021 when Bitcoin achieved it's all time high and at least for some of us for a short moment we were rich. I always loved that tax commercial where the guy gets an alert on his phone and says "I'm a millionaire!", then he gets another notification a couple seconds later and he says "I'm not a millionaire". It definitely speaks to the volatility of crypto.

This week I'm going a bit further back than 2021 though. I'm taking you way back to a time where personal computers, cell phones, mp3s, and basically anything else digital was virtually non existent.

I hope you enjoy these "Golden Oldies".

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a "Golden Oldie" is:

"something popular from the past, especially an old popular song, that people still like or that has become popular again."

I was driving down the road listening to my Sirius/XM 50's/60's/70's station called "Oldies Party" when this song came on by the Easy Beats.

Where are my Australian friends at?

"Friday on my mind" was a bit of a one hit wonder for this band from Australia that formed in 1964, but it was good enough that it became the first Australian rock song to achieve international status. Sadly, like a lot of band, drug use, the inability to replicate their past success and other issues led the band into virtual obscurity. At least on the international stage.

Honestly, I think Friday on my mind is a just a fun song. It has some elements that make me feel like it was quite a bit ahead of its time. With a few tweaks here and there, I feel like this could be on pop radio even today.

For example, can you imagine what a Killers cover of this song might sound like? I can, and it's awesome!

I've said it before in past posts, but there is something about oldies music that just feeds my soul. It's the music I grew up listening to when I was a kid and even today when most any oldies song comes on I feel refreshed and recentered. I know it probably sounds cray, but it's true.

This was another song that came on the radio in my truck the other day and I'll be danged if I didn't know pretty much all the words to it. That actually happens a lot with these songs. It might have been twenty years since I last heard the song, but I can sing along every single word.

Neil Sedaka was a goofy looking fella (not that I can talk), but he sure did have a great voice and he put out a fair number of hits back in the day. This song is probably pretty cheesy by today's standards, but it's one of my favorites and that's why I wanted to share it with you.

I think you might get a kick out of the video too. I think a lot of people don't realize just how risque' things were back then. This performance probably put a lot of church wives in a tizzy.

Finally, I wanted to leave you with this song by The Animals. I really dig the Animals, they were a pretty progressive band for the time. They did this performance in 1965 on the Ed Sullivan show. "Don't let me be misunderstood" is one of their bigger hits, but it probably isn't as well known as "We Gotta Get out of this place" or "House of the Rising Sun".

There is a blues element to the band that I really enjoy and if you go back and look, House of the Rising Sun was actually inspired by a folk song I think. Their version isn't the only or the first version of the song, but I still feel it is one of the best.

If you listen to the song, it might not sound like it, but I really kind of feel like The Animals were the metal or grunge band of the 60's. Before it was even around, they had that kind of alternative and dark feel to them that you weren't seeing with a lot of the other cotton candy pop at the time.

Then again, maybe I'm just making things up!

Either way, I hope you enjoyed!

Agreed with your take on Animals. If they were formed in 90s they would be either a grunge band or a prog rock band :)

And I too was surprised to see "House of the Rising Sun" showing as a traditional song in my Yousician songs.

Great songs all. Oldies are fun listens.

Thanks, I appreciate that! I really wish the Easy Beats had a chance to put some more stuff out. With less hindrances and more guidance, I think they could have stuck around a bit longer.

It does speak volumes for the bands that did stick around though. For eg. I am most amazed by the years Beatles spent as a band before they started making records. I guess it is just magic at times how people come together and stick together.

Great stuff! haha that jacket Neil Sedaka was wearing is not well cut for his body. Looks like a predecessor to the leisure suit the way it fits him.

Golden nuggets you found "The Animals" this week, they were a band that got you going, other two recognize but not too familiar with, that is what makes these "Golden Oldies", well so golden, mostly silver tops now!

I've got some favorites from this decade too. Taylor Swift is one of my guilty pleasures.

I love all three, fantastic picks! And to enjoy with them you can snack on those high quality chocolate pirate coins wrapped in some gold foil!

Three absolute classics! I loved them!

I'm glad you enjoyed them. You know, there were some coins that were quite good, but then there were others that just downright tasted like ass.

They are all over in the US, pretty much any grocery store you can find them in the candy aisle.

I had forgotten those Hershey things existed. Over here in always hot land, we don't have a great deal of variety as far as chocolates are concerned and I am not much a sweet tooth guy anyway. I do remember really enjoying those ones though.

I've been slowly working my way through the big bag I bought. Probably not as slowly as I should be though. I'm definitely a sucker for sweets. These are nice because you can have a couple to satisfy that craving without killing your nutrition for the day.
