One down, two to go?

I'm the sort of person who isn't ashamed to admit when I am wrong about something. Boy did Oklahoma prove me wrong last night! You might remember from my post yesterday I surmised that Texas was going to have little trouble taking down the Sooners in the Women's College World Series.

It would appear that Oklahoma is more hungry for their fourth consecutive national championship than I anticipated. They had a huge 8 to 3 win over Texas last night in the first game of what I hope will be a three game series.

Texas needs to bounce back tonight if they want to keep their hopes alive. Meanwhile, if Oklahoma wins, it's all over. Chalk up the four-peat to the Sooners.

It's not that I don't like Oklahoma, I'm actually a bit indifferent when it comes to softball, I just think it would be nice for someone else to win this year. It would have been cool if Duke had made it a bit further even though I really can't stand Duke.

Personally, I was cheering for Tennessee, but they got knocked out by Alabama pretty early in the tournament. At this point I am just watching the games and enjoying myself with absolutely zero strings attached!

Ever since I started following my nieces on one of my Twitter accounts, I get a fair amount of softball related tweets on my feed. Coaches, other players, organizations show up from time to time with some interesting tidbits of information.

For example, on one occasion, I saw a coach post something to the effect of "if your jersey isn't tucked in when I come to watch you, I am not going to recruit you". That's a pretty succinct way of saying "don't look like a slob" and "show some pride in the team whose jersey you wear".

I saw another one the other day that went something like this: "if I put you in the outfield, don't see it as a punishment. Some of the best plays in this WCWS have been made in the outfield". They weren't kidding either.

You should see some of unbelievable catches these ladies laid out to make. It's nothing short of impressive. It's one thing to to make a great catch. It's another thing to sacrifice your body to make that catch. I'm guessing true athletes will know exactly what I am talking about.

I am not a true athlete.

The most sacrifice I make for sport is stepping into a thorn bush to throw my disc in disc golf (true story)!

I guess we will have to wait and see how the game at 8:00 PM EST goes tonight. Either Texas will live to see another day or Oklahoma will take it all!
