Lady Rocks score another win

It was a pretty exciting evening last night for watching sports. Despite the fact that there has only been one top 25 college basketball game on this week, I still got to take in a bit of action. Most specifically, my niece was playing another home game for her varsity high school team.

Things started out pretty slowly in the game, then by halftime her team had created a nice 20+ point lead for themselves. Due to some sloppy play and some horrible officiating, the other team was able to close the gap in the second half, but ultimately, the Lady Rocks came away with a ten point victory.

It's been pretty impressive to watch my niece play. She doesn't get to be in the game all the time, but it has become apparent that the coach is increasing her time on the court due to her exceptional play.

She is a defensive beast and I think if she wanted to and she worked on her shooting, she could become a starter. As I have said though, her heart lies with softball, so while I don't expect her to give anything less than 100%, I don't really think her heart is in basketball enough to ever excel at it.

Either way, it is a joy to watch her play anytime she is on the court.

There are nine top 25 games on the slate for tonight as we leave the holiday break behind and surge into the continuation of conference play.

Personally, I might check out the Radford/Clemson game only for the fact that my niece is considering attending Radford in a couple of years. That San Diego State/Gonzaga game could be good as well. Despite their #13 standing, I wouldn't be shocked if the Aztecs pull off an upset.

Saturday we have eight top 25 games on the schedule. The Big East has been a lot of fun to watch this year, so that #22 Creighton vs. #10 Marquette game looks intriguing to me. Beyond that, I will probably be watching college football on Saturday as well as Michigan State in their cupcake game against Indiana State.

Sunday there are three top 25 games to be played but I expect all of them will tip in the favor of the ranked team.

As far as college bowl games, there were a fair number of upsets yesterday. #25 Kansas State beat #18 North Carolina State 28 to 19, and Boston College beat #24 SMU 23 to 14. Finally, #14 Arizona beat #12 Oklahoma 38 to 24, and in what turned out to be a really exciting game, Rutgers beat Miami, 31 to 24. I watched that whole game and I honestly thought it was going to go into overtime for a while there.

Probably one of the best college bowl games I have watches so far this year.

Today we have four college bowl games lined up. The biggest one is probably #9 Missouri vs. #7 Ohio State tonight at 8:00 PM.

Be sure to check back on Monday for all the updates from the past weekend. Monday will also be bringing us some of the biggest games of the year with #4 Alabama taking on #1 Michigan, #23 Liberty facing #8 Oregon,#3 Texas vs. #2 Washington, and finally, Wisconsin against #13 LSU.
