Getting Technical

First, let's get the sad news out of the way... After a game that went into extra innings last night, Florida lost to Oklahoma to get knocked out of the Women's College World Series. It was a valiant effort and they definitely made Oklahoma work for the win.

Despite the walk off homerun that clinched the game for Oklahoma, I think the real star of the series was Rothrock the freshman pitcher from Florida. She was a beast probably throwing close to 500 pitches total over the last three days. It's almost like going to the bullpen wasn't even an option for Florida. The fact that she is only a freshman is a good sign for the Gators. I look forward to seeing what they can accomplish next year.

The best of three game series between Oklahoma and Texas starts today at 8:00 PM EST. I'm honestly not sure I will be able to stay up late enough to watch the whole game. Personally, I have a feeling Texas is going to win the series in two games. Oklahoma is good, but they have shown they aren't perfect and Texas has just dominated this season.

It's possible Oklahoma gives them a run for their money, but I am not going to hold my breath. These two teams have faced off quite a bit during the regular season, so it will likely be an interesting watch no matter what.

I saw an article today that Angel Reese of LSU basketball fame got ejected from her WNBA game last night after getting a double technical foul for mouthing off to an official after what she considered a bad call. Pair that with another article I recently saw discussing the fact that Caitlin Clark already has three technical fouls on the season and it kind of makes you wonder what is going on with the WNBA.

I did a little bit of research and found another article from 2018 where they were talking about how the number of technical fouls in the WNBA has seen a stark increase. Given that was six years ago, you can only imagine what things are probably like now.

It's important to note that in the WNBA you get suspended from a game if you get seven or more technical fouls. This could be a big deal for some of these teams that are struggling to find their way in the new season.

I think it also points to a larger problem with sports and athletes overall. In another article I ready (shocker!) they were talking about how officials need to go easier on Clark because if she gets suspended from playing a game it will drastically impact viewership and therefore revenue.

I'm not naive enough to think that everything isn't drive by money, but blaming the refs isn't the answer (even though they are fallible sometimes). That's akin to blaming a teacher for a students bad behavior or grades. Which we know happens these days.

Everyone is looking for someone to blame for the lot that has been cast them. Don't agree with a call, it's unfair, it's everyone's fault but the actual players. @tarazkp as well as my wife (to me personally) has talked at length about the fact that people don't know how to be disappointed these days. Sometimes crappy stuff happens, sometimes people make mistakes. It happens. There doesn't always need to be justification or vindication for it. We are doing ourselves and the players a disservice by robbing them of that valuable lesson.

Personally, I'm definitely going to be thinking twice before I openly criticize officials for a bad call when I am at my nieces and nephews games. The players have learned this behavior from someone right?

Don't blame the officials, maybe don't even blame the players. Let's turn our attention to the spectators and parents that made these athletes think they are above reproach and that nothing is ever their fault.

We are all ready to critic officials of sport match, but we are no technicals. We just want to open mouth and talk.

Sports is made by players, officials, trainers and coaches. We have only to se and love our teams!
