A closed chapter
I'm not much of a dreamer, I don't necessarily have goals and ambitions that keep me up at night, so I'm usually satisfied with life. At the same time, I try to be more and ensure a certain level of productivity to the best of my abilities.
Living off crypto has surreptitiously taken me through various developmental stages that have enabled me to become who I am today. I am still a work in progress and learning every day but at the same time, I have to admit that it has been quite the journey.
My crypto journey has been an unending series of growth that has shaped my life and opened my eyes to infinite possibilities. I've become more of myself, embracing my frailties, and reinforcing my strengths to make myself a better person.
No chance
My crypto earnings in the part of Nigeria that I live in has largely sustained me, enabling me to lead a healthy lifestyle. I don't have surplus to splurge but I have enough to cover the basics and then some.
Assuming I got an entry-level job or thereabouts, I'd probably be earning the same thing that I earn now. However, I won't be working under my own terms and I'd be earning a currency with minimal chance of growth.
So, in some way, crypto saved me from working for the man and turned me into a self-sufficient machine. Perhaps not so much a machine but you get the point.
I was having a conversation with my wife earlier and we talked about the kind of life we'd live if our relocation plans turned out to be a complete failure. It is a sad thought but not impossible if our fate is tied to Nigeria and not somewhere else.
I sincerely hope I don't end up being stuck here and never getting the chance to explore the world. However, if that were to be the case, I don't think I will change my mind.
Crypto is my only mode of sustenance and while it is volatile, it is all I've got, so I hold on to it. At the same time, there are some opportunities to get jobs that could pay me entry-level salary but they don't appeal to me.
Right now, my monthly earnings in crypto, when converted to Naira, isn't even as high as some salaries that people earn. I'm at a disadvantage due to the crypto market but I try not to let that deter me from the bigger picture.
So, assuming I get permanently stuck in Nigeria, I won't stop living off risky crypto but at the same time, I'll diversify into something physical. Instead of giving my time and energy into a job in a society with almost zero satisfaction, I'll do a small business.
Crypto has given me the hunger to live on my own terms and I can't go back. If we leave Nigeria, I'll get a job in the country because the pay will be ultimately better and I'll need the money to settle in because crypto won't be enough.
In the long run, though, I'll still revert to the self-sufficient nature that crypto has imbued in me. Working for the man is a closed chapter in Nigeria, and at some point, I'll make it universal, as I'll always strive for sustainability.

It is great you can live off crypto , not many people do and in these hard overall bearish times , sure better live in countries where cryptos bring more than a job .

Keep going the way you are. I totally understand the desire to live free of someone else's timetables and what they desire to pay. I will have a temporary gig during tax season helping my cousin in his office. It's good money for a few months and he is very flexible about my schedule and taking my Dad to his Dr. appointments. For me, a job has always only been a means to an end. That end is a paycheck.

Absolutely right you are. It's just a paycheck and nothing more. Developing my own brand always takes eminence over a job
I just wish that more people understood that they are nothing more than resources to be used and thrown away when the company they are working for doesn't need them anymore. I would think they'd be less likely to be so dedicated to helping them get richer.

Best of luck to you. I can totally relate to this post. Living off crypto can be a challenge but IMHO worth it in the end. We're basically our own bosses working on our own terms. I've started a couple of small side hustles now to get through the bear markets, but I'm pretty much committed to the crypto game too. I really couldn't imagine doing anything else at this point. Certainly, nothing my heart would really be into, that's for sure.

Don’t get a job = just over broke.
You can be just over broke doing crypto instead, and be in charge of your life. It’s so important to be in control of your time.
I read a post today by @tarazkp where he said with a job you are selling your time to your employer. When you run a small business you are buying your time from yourself.
