HiveStats Review & Improvements Proposals Series - Site header

(Edited)

HiveStats was reimagined and the site metamorphosed into the one shop stop for any Hive and Hive-Engine stats and infographics. The site is powered by a new framework that was rebuilt from the ground up around speed, design, usability and expandability. As a software tester, I have quite a bit of experience in the domain (like over 15 years) and I am on a mission to explore each of the HiveStats sections and try to emphasize features that are great to use and bring constructive feedback in order to enhance it with others for the better. The current post will focus on the Site Header, while others will follow inspecting the other sections and elements.

The site header is the one that welcomes us to this application and with a glimpse of an eye captures our attention. We can find the following elements:

  • HiveStats logo to the left
  • Leo Finance buttons with links to related ecosystem applications in the center
  • Login/Switch accounts action
  • Dark/White Theme Toggle icon to the right

The HiveStats logo is the first element that offers identity and sets the mood for what is to come. The position chosen is good and there are few things that could be enhanced to make the most out of it. First of all, it should have a link directing us to an About page or something presenting the site goals and mission. That would be useful for newbies that will understand easier what this is all about. Next would be to redesign the logo and I am sure that could be accomplished also through a contest within the community. And if that doesn't work, I am sure there is always a designer around the corner that will do the job and capture the desired identity and representation of what HiveStats is envisioned.

Next, we have the Leo Finance related apps buttons that ensure easy navigation to any application from this ecosystem. This entire section is well-positioned and allows any user to expand its interest in other Leo Finance apps while visiting this site.

Login and Switch accounts actions are great features that differentiate HiveStats from other similar solutions and allow anyone to overview multiple accounts without the need to leave or open multiple browser tabs. If I was to take a step further on this, but probably will imply quite a bit of work would be the possibility to aggregate the metrics from multiple accounts. It is common to have multiple accounts on Hive blockchain for curation and/or other specialized activities, so having an aggregator for all of them considering that there is a single owner in the end, would make a killing feature in my opinion.

Last but not least, we have a feature that was demanded by the community and implemented on the new site - White/Dark Theme Toggle. This helps a lot with the usability and makes the site easy on the eyes and I must say that it was the first thing that I did when I've entered it - Switch to Dark mode.

Let's not forget about another feature that was requested by many users and I think it would be a good place to have it in the header - Search. That could allow us to search within Leo Finance lightning database, but also on the Hive blockchain for some more extended searches. Nevertheless would bring relevant information to the user, one example of a search would be: ThorChain RUNE.

One more thing that could be part of the Header or somewhere in the Footer would be to add the links for Leo Finance social media like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok. It is a marketing move to present the user with such information as based on their affinity to one social media or the other for sure they will jump onboard on at least one. I am following and checking almost daily Twitter and YouTube on the AMA.

Great, It is really nice the way the Leo team is handling this project. The feedback contest is a great and lovely initiative.

I like that too, I didn't even know about the #Leoshorts on tiktok till recently. Just like i found this post first on twitter, it creates more visibility. I believe this building processes are important and it would matter a lot in the long run as the community is very promising and there will be many people coming in as time goes on.

Right, brand awareness is important and through that, we can discover where the action, announcements or buzz is happening.

Personally for me I would say not to put the social media icons in the header. We are not trying to promote another platform. Instead twitter, facebook etc are geared towards brining traffic to us. Everyone keeps talking about getting away from web2 and mega corps but still promote them. I totally understanding using them but I would discourage any promotion of them and instead focus on only driving traffic TO leofinance and our other sites.

I understand the perspective, but those platforms are a source of new users. For me for example I go to Twitter to post links to Leo Finance posts as a way to bring more users and redirects to this ecosystem. It helps both in growing the user base and with site earnings that might come through ads.

Thanks for pointing the position of each of the logo, so that new person can know were to click.

I only have 1 account so I don't really see a need for the switching accounts feature but I am sure it might come in handy for other people. However I think just changing the url is enough to change over to a different account and that was what I did in the previous version.

Most of us started with a single account, but if you want to curate on different communities and reward those with the max of a specific token, you end up with multiple accounts. At least, this is my case.

I really like the fact that it suggests names when you're trying to log in. This is really helpful for when you're trying to check stats of someone who's username is difficult to spell. The dark mode feature is something I really like as well
