A Worker’s Break

It is a known fact that we have several holidays but most times I feel like they are not enough. I think workers need a break from work. I also feel a whole week should be assigned to workers for just relaxation. Just one day as a worker's day holiday isn’t enough. Whenever it is time to return to work after a holiday, I feel stressed and feel like the holiday wasn't enough. I think we deserve more holidays as workers. The people who benefit more from holidays are children and most times school teachers as they tend to go on holidays when the children do.

It is different with workers as the longest holiday we could have is during Christmas/New Year, apart from that there is no long holiday at all. I think most days when I am tired and stressed I wish for more holidays but then as an adult and a worker there are just a few holidays and then the weekends are always short, so it feels like no holiday.

I think we all deserve to have holidays on our birthdays. For instance, you get a holiday because it’s your birthday so you don’t have to work. I am someone who loves birthdays so much and I think it is a special day. Well when it comes to life as a worker, your birthday is just like every other day so you have to report to work.

In 2023, I had the worst birthday ever, on my birthday it turns out I had the busiest day ever. I had a message from my HOD, that I needed to report to work on my birthday. I was pissed because I was wondering how that day was going to turn out. I had to travel from home back to my state of assignment a day before my birthday. On my birthday, I had to report to my place of assignment and also get some things done. I had to move around from one office to another, getting things sorted out. To everyone, it felt like a normal day but to me, it was my birthday and I was really sad that I was working and reporting to different offices.

I will always vote for the idea that birthdays should be holidays. More like you get a text from your boss that says “Tomorrow is your birthday, take two days off and enjoy yourself” Well it is never like that. You come to work on your birthday and everyone just says happy birthday and goes back to normal.

I think everyone deserves a holiday on their birthday. That way we get to observe a break at least from work and have the whole day to ourselves. Either way, I think workers deserve more holidays. To relieve themselves from stress and the burden of hustling. That is why most times workers break down as a result of too much stress and less resting time.
