My Favorite Childhood Toys (LOH Contest #140)

( EN / DE )
Probably not the typical favorite "ladies" childhood toy I'm showing you here for the current Ladies of Hive contest :-)

I think there are two good reasons why I still have a few of my old childhood toys here. One is probably that I don't have children myself. But the other is that I never really had to clear out this room of my childhood. I moved out of home at 24, but the one room was never really needed by my family. I had room when I came to visit from Bavaria and so it comes that here is still this small cabinet full of memories

Of course, I also played with Barbies and dolls. Mostly I sat on the floor and built small worlds out of everything I could find, in which the dolls then lived and had their adventures.

But another less lady-like gaming passion was for cars and also my railroad. These electric cars ran on my dad's old Carrera track, where I could play for hours with my best friend next door. I also had a train set, here are two of the locomotives.

There is also a small rarity in the cabinet, I think:

There's a wheel missing, but I know that's still in a little box somewhere. Good thing I took it out, because the old batteries definitely belong disposed of. What do you think, should I buy new batteries and then show you the sport runabout in action?

Sorry, I can't think of which movie this next car belongs to. The figure of the bald policeman, which was with this toy car, I had unfortunately lost very quickly.

But now to my favorite toy: Besides Lego, Matador and Barbies, these were definitely my beloved Matchbox cars!

With the neighbor's son, we could spend hours racing and crashing courses. We had these little plug-in orange tracks that you attached to a table and the cars would drive down the track - without batteries - purely by gravity and through a loop. Whichever one rolled the farthest was the winner.

I really had a lot of these little cars. At some point they became the property of my nephew and unfortunately my sister then disposed of them all, which is a pity, because I think there were really a few collector's items among them.

Now on the other hand they were all in very played with condition, as you could see with the 4 pieces I still own. The highlight was a truck, a car transporter, on which you could load and transport four normal cars.

Yes, may sound strange in today's times, but something like that was really a lot of fun for me.

Haha and believe it or not, when I sat down there on the floor today to photograph the little treasures, I immediately found myself going "brrrrrrrm" "brrrrrrrrm" with the cars and crashing them. Okay, this crash wasn't as loud and brutal as when I was 7 years old.

That was my contribution to the current LOH Contest #140 and I hope of course you liked it. I think in this closet is still one or the other old toy that would be worth a separate post one day, what do you think? :-) Yours, B.

Mein Lieblings-Kindheits Spielzeug - LOH Contest #140

:-) Eure B.

Yes, will do one day.
After our last move, the rental is so small we can’t unpack 50% of the boxes… so no idea we’re they are. Other wise I would have joined. But one day… will post about them 😊
Have a nice Sunday 👋🏻☀️

Ok, the kid in me was going a little bit giddy at this post. What a cool collections of treasures! You are very fortunate. I don't have any of my childhood toys, I think it's so cool that you were able to pass some of them down to your nephew.

As for the sports car, umh - yes, I for one would enjoy seeing it go. It looks like you had a good time going down memory lane with these toys. I was never really into barbies, yet I'm having my second childhood now playing barbies with my niece 😁

Your post also gave me a really cool idea for photography, so for that, I owe you thanks!

Yes probably we all should give the child in us a little weekly time to simply play without thinking of anything. It was fun to take the photos :-)

This is awesome @beeber, to know that you still have your childhood toys intact. I wish I still had my doll, and I also had many cars that I always pulled apart to discover exactly how they were made up, and then reassemble them:)

The pre internet world...Kids had to play together. Then Nintendo took over and each kid was spending hours over its own gaming thingy. Later internet changed the world irreversibly. (No technophobic implications intended)

I think we are very lucky that we grew up when we did! Using our imaginations and having playmates helped shape who we are today. ❤️

Nice collection! I remember those orange tracks where the cars ran by gravity instead of electricity, though my cars were mostly built from LEGO. The boy who owned the tracks had a loft bed, so we could drop the cars from really high!

And that Sindy Ballerina... We got those for christmas once. I think I gave mine to my sister even before New Year's Eve, or maybe I traded it for the right to read whatever book she had been given that year? 😹

Sehr cooles Zeug.
