The Guy From Afar.

He is the type that gives off this nerdy look but that isn't who he truly is. Henry knew he couldn't get to talk to her. Not that he does not want to, but because he is a mess.

Life has been unfair to him as he grew up in a home where his courageous vibe was killed. He was raised to be scared of everything. Though he managed to get his people communication skills intact and those were to some little guy friends he made during high school.

Now, a graduate in Computer Science, all he did was work tirelessly on his computer until he met her. The girl with the perfect doe eye, a plumpy lip, and a round natural face with red hair. She must be feisty. He thought.

But why did he take note of her physical appearance? He thought carelessly. She was not the only person here.

Henry is 26 years old and will be 27 in a few months. During the years he lived, the only woman he was able to look at was his Mum and that was when she hit her head on the kitchen counter when he came to drop his plate in the kitchen that night.

His Dad was a woman beater, an alcoholic bastard who blamed him for not being strong. Henry was born prematurely and his father hated that. But it was not his fault it happened... Was it?

Since when he has been birthed all he hears were the whimpering sound of his mother as his father beats her. She became a shell of herself and he didn't exist to her. It was like she didn't notice his presence. A traumatic event he grew up with. It was excruciating but he was unfortunate to be born into such a cruel family. It would have been nice if he were born as a chicken.

The night his mother slipped on the kitchen counter and fell, he had bent down very scared by the loud thud but after some minutes. He stood up to see his mother down on the floor with blood on the floor beside her. His father had come in then and said the words;

"You killed my wife". To him and hated him more. He lived like a squirmy rat.

That was the day his true hell began. He was raised in fear of his father and the fear clawed his heart and mind into many other things.

Luckily for him, his Dad did pay his tuition fees till college. He had to work to cover up his university on his own. It was hell but looking back, everything paid off. He is now a graduate and working in a very big organization only that he asked to work from home which the company agreed to.

Every year on the 25th of April, Henry always comes out of his comfort zone to the sea. He does love the misty air that surrounds it but that wasn't why he always came out. It is quite funny he wasn't close to the woman yet he celebrates her death anniversary by coming out to the sea. His mother's anniversary. Maybe he needed to atone for her sins of not being motherly to him.

And today, as usual, he came out to the sea again to celebrate her 18 years of death anniversary but unlike those years, today was different because standing very close to the seawater was the lady he spoke about earlier.

His eyes caught hers and he didn't know why they did... Maybe it was because of the peace that surrounds her. Her face was very calm and she wasn't moved by the sound of the wave hitting ashore and that bewitched him into staring at her more than he intended.

Although he knows that he won't be able to talk to her and it was painful. Only if he dared to ask for her number so he could call her. It would have been nice. But he couldn't, he was only able to find out where she lived and worked by hacking into the security footage by the sea when he got home.

The only thing he could do was watch her from afar and maybe if fate would have it, he might be able to summon the courage to have her number and call out her name not from afar, but at a close range and hopefully, she might giggle and wave at him.

"Sydney". That is her name.

Only if he could make the call to change who he is, but it is not going to be easy, and he doubted she would wait for him. He would just be the guy from afar and live his life, however, fate decides to make it. It is better to leave all in fate's hands.

Bravo.. Just bravo.
I was so into the story I was waiting for henry to say Hi.
Now he has turn to be a stalker. How I wish it was a good time for him. It would have been nice to have a good family and his fate wouldn't be the way it is now. Oh Henry, I feel for you.

Yes, having a good family would have been great but... He didn't.

Let's leave it all in Fate's hands. You never know what may happen.

It's interesting and captivating, but more importantly, this also has several touch of reality. I guess that's the really sad part of the story... The fact that some people grew up in a home that is no different from a battleground. That kinda experience is not something anyone can make up. We know about it because we've seen it first hand.

Wow... Any home where Husband and Wife do not live in harmony is always mehhhh. The ripple effect of that kinda environment often blows outta proportion. I'm so gutted for our male lead. It will take a while for him to overcome that weird side of his personality.

Nice one bae 🙂.

Yes, it does have a real touch to it which makes it sad.

We've seen how some people grow in life which you term "Battleground". It is like that.

That is why one needs to be careful before getting married. Wedding may be fun but marriage is a bumpy ride.

I do hope anyone in his shoe gets to be freed of their timidity.

Thanks boo😍.

What a sad tale.
This shows how cruel humans can be regardless of blood relations. Henry or no child should ever have been exposed or forced to live in such misery. Good of Henry to have found success in an aspect of his life, and we can only hope that he found the courage to get to know the woman he admired.
Thanks for taking part in this week's prompt:)

Humans are cruel. It takes a good conscience to beat down the cruelty but many have been found with a bad conscience and Henry was unfortunate to get roped into it.

It is sad as no child should face such a traumatic event. But people face it and the outcome is always burdensome.

Yes, all we have to do is hope the courage he needs gets doubled up to achieve his aim.

Beautifully scripted.

Our growing up actually has great effect on our personalities later in life. The timidity must've come from the way he was brought up.

Great piece

Yes, it does. That's why parents must be careful about how they treat their kids.

Fear isn't good when it comes from childhood trauma. It is always heartbreaking.

Thanks for stopping by.

This is so sad. What a cruel place to be in. This is the reality of many children from broken homes. It leaves a huge emotional scar. Some are fortunate to heal while others aren't. I'm glad Henry was successful in life. Perhaps a day would come when that call would happen.

Well done.
