December 30th, 2023Things are slowly getting back on schedule in ASEAN Hive because life here at home in the Cardamom Mountains of Cambodia is getting back to normal, allowing me to catch up on ASEAN Hive duties. @kolkamkwan jumped from the SILVERs into the GOLDs this week with a 500 HP delegation, going adding 400 HP onto his existing 100 HP delegation. Not to be left out is @nurul-uli, who increased her delegation to 40 HP, flirting with becoming a full-fledged BRONZE VIP at 50 HP.
As far as delegations go, that is the only news to speak of this week. My visa expires in a few days, so I will not be relaxed and enjoying the holiday because after nearly 13 years in Cambodia, I am no longer eligible to obtain longterm visas because the government is too stupid and/or lazy to create anything other than 2 types of visas for foreigners. I now must leave the country every 10 months and pray that I will be allowed back through the border, not an awesome feeling when you have land and a family within the country that the government will not recognize as mine.
So basically when I leave Cambodia and ask to return, I have no legal ties here, and the government can refuse mere-entry if I seem to be abusing the visa regime here. In all reality I should have citizenship by now, but instead I find myself being forced to acquire work permits, business licenses, tourism licenses, taxes, and much more just to obtain a long-term visa here. As I am not working, I am not eligible for these things, but paying massive fines and a corrupt travel agent is now the standard way to fix these problems, and for me this cost is now thousands of dollars because I am expected to pay fines for all the previous years I should've had a business license and work permit when I wasn't working here. Enough of my rambling, let's just see the winners already.......

How The VIP Delegator Raffle Works
Every raffle I tally the total HP delegated to the @asean.hive curation account, and one raffle ticket is allocated for each HP delegated by you ASEAN Hivers (excluding [me] @justinparke, @srey-yuu, @sakana & @sreypov), with a minimum delegation of 50 HP to be eligible for the ASEAN Hive VIP 🥉 BRONZE Raffle.
There are five separate raffles, one for each VIP tier, and each tier's prize is a post beneficiary status equivalent to the tier's total percentage of raffle tickets allocated. This means the percentages of each tier's share of the prize is fluid, and I think it makes the raffle more fun and fairer.
This week's total effective HP is 165,210, and total delegated HP is 152,038 HP (115,445 HP minus ASEAN team member delegations & delegations under 50 HP), so I plugged the numbers into my Raffle Picker iOS app, selected "pick winners," and the results were instantly and randomly calculated.

Wow. Do you have to travel to the US every 10 months then? Or does crossing the border to Thailand suffice?
Just waste a ton of money and time to go to Thailand for 5 minutes. On this occasion the family wanted to join me, so we actually spent a half day in Thailand and a couple nights on the Cambodian casino town side of the border. There are only two types of visas in Cambodia, none for my category, so in order to get a longterm visa I'd have to get a tourist license, business license, work permit, tax registration, and several other things that would cost around $3,000 USD, cheap by some foreigner's standards, but for me that represents about 50% of what I can earn in a year.
It's hard to register a business that doesn't exist and one that you will never run, and yet 95% of all local Cambodian businesses are unregistered and don't pay taxes. I don't mind subsidizing the country, but I'd prefer to have some basic family rights and land ownership rights if I am to give 50% of my income to a government that doesn't want me here and does everything to make life for me here impossible. In a month I'll have to go the capital to get a 6-month visa extension, then I can get a 3-month extension before being forced to leave the country and start all over.
So sad, how if you go to the US and live there with your family
