Lobi Lobi Art Exhibit By Pascale Marthine Tayou | Bobo Land
It's finally on!
A few weeks ago, I shared how we witnessed the behind the scenes of setting up an exhibit at the Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation. It was an interesting experience and now, the exhibit is on and we can finally see the final presentation of the arts that we saw being installed.
The LOBI-LOBI exhibit presents the works of Cameroonian artist and poet, Pascale Marthine Tayou. It was actually a big one -- I mean the floor area covering the exhibit and the art installations themselves -- I could not quite put them all in one post alone without it being too lengthy and just full of pictures.
Besides, the kids and I honestly were not able to finish viewing all the parts of the exhibit so today, let me just share some pieces from the children's section of the exhibit, titled BOBO LAND.
BOBO LAND is an exploratory exhibition for children to think about their past, play in the present, and achieve their future through their imagination.
"BOBO" is actually an imaginary boy created by the Artist and Bobo Land is where he built and chased his dream of traveling to the moon.
The exceptional artworks were created with various everyday objects like cloth, wires, paper, wood, threads, pipes, and even feathers. Indeed, everything is an art. One just needs to be a bit more imaginative and unafraid to express himself.
Some arts cannot be touched but most are interactive and can be played with by the visitors.
We entered the exhibit and were welcomed by vibrant colors! The kids found it a bit creepy that the pointed wooden colors were on top of us (too much imagination, lol) but really, I personally found it nice especially since we also had to stand on a colorful carpet and there were also different colored lights that add more vibrance to the spot.
Some of the artist's poems were also presented along with his crafts.
These sculptures depict all of us as different kinds of people but just the same are all taking our paths to achieve our own dreams.
KIDS SPIRIT Collage is another amusing creation. It is made from various scrap materials, built over scratch paper.
My children had particular fun with these colorful pom poms. They can be pulled from the big mountain of pom poms and then rearranged to transform Pom Pom Girl using as many pom poms as you wish.
Kids Mascarade is another fun, interactive part of the exhibit. The visitors are encouraged to take a mask and try it on.
I failed to take the name of this installation - but here the kids can also play "hide and seek". My kids didn't try it though - they were more eager to try other activities like the digital puzzle game where they get to choose what new animal can be created when two are put together.
After this, we proceeded to the main Lobi Lobi exhibit which was on the opposite side of the ground floor of the Cultural Foundation. We weren't able to explore all of the arts on display since the kids also wanted to go to the Children's Library.
Good thing this exhibit is on until November, we have plenty of time to go back and check out the rest.
