CELEBRATING TEACHERS ALL OVER THE WORLD : OUR SUPER HEROES

This day being 5th October is a special day set aside every year to celebrate the extraordinary people that devote themselves towards shaping us into a better version of ourselves.

My children's school sent all parents messages regarding this day few days ago and asked that we grace the school with our presence and they gave us the privilege to teach thereby relieving the teachers of their job for that day.

My first daughter's teacher called me yesterday and asked that I take the class on Grammar subject. She sent me slides that I will use to teach the class and I was more than happy to offer my help. My daughter on the other hand was so thrilled that her mother would be taking her class . She and her sister begged me to buy presents for their teachers which i obliged them.

My second daughter's class was the first that I visited and there I saw a parent taking them on mathematics. She was teaching them fractions and was doing a good job. She always stole a glance at the class teacher to confirm that she was doing well.

I spent fifteen minutes with them before heading to her sister's class who was in year four. The class was so excited to receive me and my daughter was ecstatic. Me showing up means so much to her and in that moment I can see happiness colored all over her face.

The class teacher announced to them that I would be taking them on grammar shortly and they beamed in anticipation. I stood up from the chair the teacher had earlier offered me and went to work - teaching.

I taught them on singular verbs and plural verbs. The slides where easy to navigate through and I tried so much to take them along. I asked questions occasionally and they were so eager to answer by raising up their hands.

I became tired along the way and signalled to the teacher that I was done. She smiled then told the children to ask questions if they have any. They asked a few questions and I was able to answer them.

Another parent entered just when i was about rounding up. She continued from where I stopped. I sat down to catch my breath and wondered if this is what the teachers do all day long. I surely gave them their flowers today by appreciating them in a very good way. The other mothers also brought gifts for them to show their appreciation too.

I used that opportunity to look into my girls academic performance and know how best I can help the teachers to bring out the very best in them. We discussed at length before going to meet their head of school. She enlightened me on the up coming school activites and we shared ideas on how to make it not just succesful but above par.

In all I didn't forget my elder sister Mrs Christiana who is head of school in one of the elementary schools in the eastern part of Nigeria. She started as a teacher and after few two years she was promoted to head of school because of her outstanding achievement and dedication toward the betterment of the children and the school in general.

I put a call across to her to express my gratitude to her for being a good teacher not only to her students but to her siblings.

Her job seems so easy and natural for her because she loves nurturing children. As the second born and first daughter out of eight children she did absolutely well in taking care of us.

No matter your profession, whatever it is that you are today is all because of our amiable teachers. We can't thank our teachers enough for all their hardwork and the seed of knowledge they planted and keep planting in all of us.
