Larry Is Alive #186 November 13, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Monday, the 13th day of November, 2023. It was an unlikely result for the reigning champions Manchester City when they visited Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Everyone thought that City will easily roll over Chelsea. But the reverse was the case as Chelsea kept them busy and on their toes with a potential loss staring at their faces. City were even grateful to have escaped with a draw, a point at least. The game ended in an eighth goal triller (4-4). After other matches of the day, Larry turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the events of the world war I. He finds out that on this day in 1916, During WWI, an expensive four-month Allied offensive against German strongholds along the Somme River came to an end.

From the events of the events of WWI, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 2015, Terrorists carried out coordinated assaults in Paris and its environs, the bloodiest of which occurred at the Bataclan theatre and music venue; at least 130 people were murdered and more than 350 were injured.

From France, Larry goes to Afghanistan. He finds out that on this day in 2001, following the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in response to the September 11th terrorist attacks, the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance army captured Kabul, the capital city.

From Afghanistan, Larry goes to the world of mountains. He finds out that on this day in 1985, two eruptions from Mount Ruiz in the west-central Andes Cordillera in Colombia buried the village of Armero on the Lagunilla River, killing an estimated twenty-five thousand people.

From the world of mountains, Larry goes to Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 1918, Egyptian nationalist Saad Zaghloul founded the nationalist political organization Al-Wafd al-Miṣrī (Arabic for “Egyptian Delegation”), which played a key role in Egypt's independence from Britain.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from the events of WWI . He finds out that on this day in 1916, during WWI, an expensive and largely unsuccessful four-month Allied offensive against German strongholds along the Somme River came to an end.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
