Larry Is Alive #108 I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. The second working day of the week is already up and running. Things have started shaping up at the ongoing Women's World Cup 2023 co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. Stand up for the Philippines!!! They pulled a surprise which nobody saw coming by defeating the co-host New Zealand by a lone goal in their second match of the competition. Another massive result saw Columbia defeating South Korea by two goals to nil. Larry feels sorry for Norway who is at the verge of crashing out of the competition, having lost their opening match against New Zealand and now drew goalless with Switzerland. To progress in the competition, Norway needs to beat the Philippines in their last group game. Can they do that? Let's wait and see. Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from North America. He finds out that on this day in 1814, British troops led by General Phineas Riall repelled an invasion of Canada by a US army led by General Jacob Brown in the Battle of Lundy's Lane during the War of 1812.

Larry moves over to Asia, precisely India. He finds out that on this day in 2007, Pratibha Patil, an Indian lawyer and politician, was sworn in as President of India, making her the country's first female president. She was in office as President from 2007 - 2012 and was succeeded by former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

From Asia, Larry moves into Europe. He finds out that on this day in 2000, Air France flight 4590, a Concorde supersonic airliner, crashed near Paris, killing all 109 passengers on board and four others on the ground. The incident was thought to expedite the end of Concorde operations three years later.

Larry remains in Europe, although he moves towards the eastern part of Europe. He finds out that on this day in 1984, Svetlana Yevgenyevna Savitskaya, a Soviet astronaut, became the first woman to walk in space.

Larry moves to the world of medicine. He finds out that on this day in 1978, Louise Joy Brown, the first human conceived through in vitro fertilization [IVF], was born in Lancashire, England.

Finally, Larry decides to round off his look at today in history from the West Indies with two related historical events. Firstly, Larry finds out that on this day in 1898, during the Spanish-American War, United States forces led by General Nelson A. Miles invaded Puerto Rico. And secondly, on this day in 1952, Puerto Rico gained its own government as a commonwealth of the United States.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry then decides that it is time to befin his daily routine activity of mail delivery.
