How I handle Difficult Team Member In The Office

working in an IT firm and having to deal with some set of people who formed the project team is not an easy one to deal with. In this blog, I will share the strategies I put in place to handle my team.

As a product manager, I have different kinds of people to form the team such as developers, quality assurance, scrum masters, software testers, business managers, and product designers. imagine all these strong individuals trust me it is not easy.

Communication
I create clear and concise communication with the team, especially the tough ones. ensures I don't bug them with unnecessary discussion or keep them over 15mins of our daily stand-up because they will use it as an excuse not to deliver their deliverables.

Relationship
I developed a very strong relationship with every member of the team. using my lady magical strategy. like I ensure I always have something to snack on in my drawer and just share randomly without discussing about work. go to their desk and have a general discussion and feel empathy for them. when I realized I have gotten their space I just chip in the deliverables I'm expecting from them, give me feedback even before meeting in our next stand-up meeting.

Goal and expectation
apart from team members understanding their roles, responsibilities, and timelines. I set goals personally for each of the members I do this to avoid conflict of interest, which is the best way I mitigate issues and avoid being escalated to stakeholders.
l list them out and put them on a kanban board where I get to see what has been done so far and what is lacking behind and the resources responsible for it. this has helped me

Lesson Learnt
even if your superior doesn't show it to your team. One loves to be bossed around, everyone loves to be treated well and this goes a long way
they also put your work above other work they have on their desk because the attitude given was warming and soothing.
Always know when to engage a team with work check on them first and know how they feel maybe they have some personal thing that be a show-stopper for them.

You sure have yourself a handful of experience to be able to do this well as a leader. You understand and act accordingly.

I totally love the idea that you connect with your workers on a level that's not even related to work. It helps them feel seen, and, in a way, it can improve their efficiency at work.

The most difficult kind of task is having to deal with humans especially adults who are difficult to control, you have a good strategy in place and I'm sure you are handling your role well, more grace to you and keep it up.
