It’s raining today—and honestly, it feels wonderful. It’s been at least four months since I last saw any proper rain. After so long, I was beginning to think rain had become an urban legend, something people used to talk about in the old days… lol.
For weeks, the sun shone relentlessly, the days stayed hot, and the ground gradually dried out. I started looking at my region and wondering whether it was going to turn into an arid desert before the end of the year. The plants seemed thirsty, the gardens needed a drink, and sometimes the air felt so heavy that it was hard to breathe.
So seeing a good, heavy rain finally fall feels like a little event! The raindrops patter against the windows, rooftops, and pavements, making a kind of soothing music. Outside, everything seems calmer, as if nature is finally catching its breath after months of dry weather. The soil can soak up some much-needed water, the trees and plants can drink their fill, and the gardens might even regain a little colour and freshness.
I love that distinctive smell after the rain, when the scent of wet earth replaces the dust and the air feels cooler. The landscape looks different—more alive, almost renewed. Leaves glisten with raindrops, puddles appear along the paths, and the clouds remind us that the seasons are still doing their thing.
It’s reassuring to finally have weather that feels right for the season and to feel that autumn is well and truly here. After all that heat, a little cool air is more than welcome. We can put on a jumper, open a window to let in the fresh air, and enjoy the peaceful feeling that comes with a rainy day.
And the rain is especially welcome at work! For once, I won’t be sweating like a pig from the moment I get there. I’ll finally be able to work in peace without gasping in the heat or desperately looking for a bit of shade or a breath of fresh air. That alone is reason enough to welcome the rain with open arms!
Of course, not everyone enjoys grey, damp days. Some people prefer sunshine, long summer evenings, and going for walks without getting soaked. But today, I’m not going to complain: after several months without proper rain, this downpour is more than welcome. It’s good for nature, cools everything down, and reminds us that every season has its own charm.
So today, I won’t grumble about the bad weather. I’ll listen to the rain falling, enjoy the cooler air, and be glad that nature is finally getting some water.
Long live the rain, long live autumn—and long live the days when we can finally breathe!
And what’s the weather like where you are today? Is the sun shining, is it raining, or have you even had a surprise snowfall? Lol! I’d love to know what it’s like in your part of the world.
Have you got any plans for today? Are you heading out, staying cosy indoors, or just taking the day as it comes? Tell me what you’re up to!
