Do you read books?

do you read books.jpg

One of my main hobbies is to read books. A couple of months ago, my wife convinced me to switch from traditional books to kindle reader and since then, my book consumption increased quite a lot. It's possible that I read a book in 3 days only and it's so easy to order the books on amazon, that I never run out of things to read.

In today's mission, I would like to ask you about your reading habits:

Do you read books? If yes, what kind of books? Do you read e-books or traditional books? What authors do you like?

Please write your answer as a comment below this post.

I really enjoy reading, although it's become a bit harder to concentrate since COVID. I like fantasy and young adult fiction books, haha! I really like the Brazilian authors Bruna Vieira and André Vianco

I'm not so familiar with the Brazlian litterature but I also like fantasy books :-)

Look, this year I’ve only read 2 books, and I feel bad about it because my annual average was around 15 books. I enjoy the genres of medieval fantasy and historical fiction for entertainment. I’ve never adapted to any digital resource, I’ve always preferred physical books (with yellowed pages, of course). I like looking at my bookshelf and seeing all the books I’ve read there, as if they were my trophies. :)

That's totally my ballpark :-)

I used to accumulate so many books that I didn't know where to put them anymore and my wife convinced me to switch to kindle :-)

Yes, I do enjoy reading books.
I prefer fiction books, especially mystery and thriller genres.
I read both e-books and traditional books, depending on the situation.
Some of my favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Stephen King and Gillian Flynn.

I read a lot of thrillers in the past. Nowadays, I read mainly historical fiction and science fiction or fantasy novels.

I do like reading books, but I tend to read translated webnovels/light novels.
As someone who likes anime, I read a bunch of stuff from slice of life, action, isekai and other types of novels.
I read them online.
As for authors, I don't really view the authors much so I can't name one by name, but I tend to recognize the novels that I liked.

I used to read some mangas when I was a bit younger. Now I gave all my collections to my son that likes them on the shelves but doesn't really read them lol

Used to read a lot, but now with kids I have a few moments of spare time that I spend watching 1h of netflix hehe. However, I try to read with my kids a lot especially fantasy books. I read all the lord of the ring series and harry potter in the past!

Yes, I read books. Usually about 1 or 2 per week. Rarely, they can be a paperback that someone has lent to me. But mostly, I read PDF versions on my phone.

I find it much easier to read electronic books than the printed format. Especially as I usually read at night with the light off.

Currently I'm reading the Kate Brannigan series by Val Mcdermid. Which are about a Manchester-based private detective. I especially enjoy these as I worked for several years in Manchester. So I'm familiar with many of the locations in the books.

Similarly, my previous author was A A Dhand, who bases most of his plots around Bradford which I know very well. His main character is a police inspector called Virdee. Which is the title of a soon-to-be-released TV series. So I'm looking forward to comparing the screen and written versions of his work.

I'm thinking of rereading the works of Leon Uris next. As I remember enjoying his books immensely, many years ago. But maybe I'll get other ideas from comments here?

Often, I'll enjoy a title or a series so much that I want more. So, in recent years, I've started Internet searching for books similar to what I've been reading. Which I find is a great way to find new authors that interest me.

That's exactly my problem. If I find an author that I enjoy, I tend to read all the available books. At the moment I'm reading Sharpe's Novels by Bernard Cornwell and I've read the first 18 books out of 24 lol.

I read mostly fiction, between 50-100 books a year. I have bookshelves full of books and as my eyes have grown weaker I have used a Kindle for years because I could make the font as large as I want and my Alexa device could pick up reading right where I left off so that I could continue 'reading' while I washed dishes or did other chores. More recently I have begun using Audible. It gives my eyes a break so that I can Hive more!

0.00024208 BEE

Audible is a great solution for that. It's not very popular in europe yet but I think it's a great concept.

I used to read a lot before the illusion of having no time set in...
Before we had home internet, I would regularly go to the library and spend a lot of time there. Especially since they don't let you check out the reference books! I also like other nonfiction but also fantasy and sci-fi.

This is one of a number of books I recently discovered which i6 would very much like to read!

1000007649.jpg

I recently read an 'older' book by Jacques Vallee (sp?) called Confrontations. A very great read investigating first hand accounts, looking at original photographs as well as traveling to the sites in question to see in person. Very scientific in his approach and not sensational.

We cannot jump to conclusions. Much like when people ask me, "Are gnomes evil?"
How can entire species/civilization be evil? (Actually, I would argue that humans are evil!) A gnome, extraterrestrial, Bigfoot, or any individual alien can certainly be evil but should not represent the whole!

In other news, I also have been looking for Pseudoscorpions of Illinois (1949) and apparently PDF versions are widespread online...

Is the Kindle and similar product really so convenient? Is that how my brother in law finished The Expanse series so quickly? Am I gatekeeping myself in the name of being some sort of 3D book purist‽

0.00024163 BEE

Is the Kindle and similar product really so convenient?

I have to say that I was against it for quite some time. I love the feel of real paper in my hands. However, the books in my library have become so many that my wife insisted that I try it out and I have to say that it's so cool to buy a book in 3 minutes and start reading it. In addition to that it's much cheaper than paper books.

I stopped reading books after Delta Variant outbreak. After I recovered from it, I kept working 100+ hours and that left me with no more proper me-time.

I've been a book devourer for as long as I can remember. When I focus on reading I forget about the world, it's like a drug. Until a few years ago my readings were mainly novels, almost of any genre, but my favourite is the historical novel.

However, since I bought a Kindle with a touch screen, my reading habits have changed. Now essays predominate, especially psychology and personal development. Although right now, for example, I'm with a history one. I prefer the comfort of the ebook because I am already adapted to its dimensions and weight, I can underline passages that I then easily send to my notes app, and it allows you to save money and space. The paper has a romantic and special touch, but in my case it does not compensate for the advantages of current technology.

As for my favourite novel authors are Javier Sierra, Ken Follett, Noah Gordon, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Matilde Asensi... almost all of them are Spanish.

I agree with that. It's so nice that I can now read next to my wife while she sleeps without disturbing her thanks to my kindle :-)

I read, but less than I used to in recent years. It's mostly sci-fi authors. I wouldn't single any out because there are many excellent ones. The last ones I read were Three Bodies Problem by Liu Cixin and The Peripheral by William Gibson. These two are also TV series.
I'm planning to do The Agency by Gibson this June.

I watched both Chinese and Netflix series. But before that, I read books, and I bought paper books. It's hardcore sci-fi, and it has a lot of appointments on almost every page of the book about Chinese words and meanings. It's not easy to read :)

It may sound strange, but I've never been one for reading books kkkk 😅, I basically read a few when I was a teenager because I needed to do some work, but as an adult I've never stopped to read any kind of book. I basically read articles on the internet, by so many different authors that I don't even remember their names, I just read them.

So my answer is no xD

I love to read books since my childhood. Of course at my school years it was some children books. When I was studying in university it was not only mandatory books but also it was Harry Potter as an example. Also I love to read books from local writers as example Three ages of Akini Sun by Valentin Pikul or series of fantasy books from author whose books I read since university time. Also sometimes I try to read some tech books like Django by example from Antonio Millie earlier this book helped me to understand better Django framework.
By the way I can say that books help me not to find new information but also to rest a little bit after hard day.Unfortunately at last months I have less time but at my vacation time I'll read something new surely!

I like to read when I want to learn. I'll go to Gramedia (Big bookstore) and look for the good cover and title. E-books? I'll print it out before reading it. Reading too many words on the monitor makes me dizzy.

I had novels and light novels on my shelf. For novels, I'll read it when a blackout is happening or no electronic time 😂 !LOL

Anime and comics are still my main entertainment sources, and some of them actually teach viewers a lesson, especially in the club activity genre.
