RE: How is the economy in your country ?

(edited)

How is it for you?

For me, personally, life is good and I have a pretty easy time of it as I don't have many overheads. Currently, I fit into the first category of Mr Micawber's equation: "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness." [Charles Dickens, David Copperfield]

How is it in your country?

I think a lot of people are feeling the pinch. With the low yen, imports are more expensive but wages have remained stagnant for years. There is a lot of hidden poverty, especially for single parent families, I believe.

How is the economy evolving in your country?

Well, the economy seems to be sluggish. "Real GDP growth is projected at +0.9% for FY2025 (November 2025 forecast: +1.0%)" https://www.dlri.co.jp/english/report_en/202512YS.html

Although the new Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi, channels Margaret Thatcher, her cabinet has just announced a huge (US$136 billion) stimulus package. While some of the measures will provide short term relief to those in need, it simply adds to the massive mountain of Japanese government debt while further weakening the yen (good for exports, but pushes up import prices).

On the other hand, Japanese stocks have done well this year, so some people are secretly smiling!
