At the beginning of the crypto movement, I was running several crypto faucets. I run them for several years and my website was quite popular. Later, it was invaded by bots and my business model didn't work anymore. That was somewhere between 2015 and 2018. It's amazing to see that there are still such websites in existence. There are even some that have never disappeared since then!
When I discovered Hive, I forgot about the faucets and the many clicks for peanuts until some weeks ago, I had an idea...
The paid to click websites have somewhat evolved over the past years. You can still claim from faucets but you can also watch ads and get paid or even do surveys that can pay rather well.
Today, I tried to do some surveys on Viefaucet to figure out whether they were actually working. In total, I invested maybe 45 minutes but I got close to 300'000 tokens which is around 3 USD worth of crypto.
The result of my activity today with Surveys on Viefaucet...
Of course, the time spent on these websites is still not really well paid, on the contrary, you still only earn peanuts in most of the cases. Most people maybe spend a week on such a site before giving up but some like them, do surveys and you never know...
We have talked a lot about affiliate marketing in the context of liotes to try to find a way to bring external money to the project. The problem most of the time is that in order to get payouts, you need a company name and bank account and we don't have that. It's a bit different for these paid to do websites. They pay you referral commissions when you bring new users to them. In most of the cases, you only need an account yourself and then you can start to refer people and you simply get a commission on their activity directly credited to your account.
With Liotes, we are doing some test in this respect. We asked our community members to sign up with some websites using the referral links of liotes. Whenever they generate an income, they also generate a referral commission that is paid directly to the Liotes account from the webmaster. For a single person, it might only lead to pennies but what if a lot of people are working together?
If you earn 10% commission on all the earnings that are generated by your referrals, things start to look interesting when you have many referrals working with you.
In a normal situation, when you refer people to a website, the earnings that are generated are your profit. With Liotes, we will do things differently. With the referral commissions that we are generating, we will fund a hive account. We will actually use the crypto that we collect, purchase Hive, power it up and then delegate it to our curation account. This delegation will in return generate daily dividends and these dividends will be put in the reward pool LEN:LENM.
The advantages are quite manifold:
It is a way to work together and to split the profits. Every referral commission that will be generated, will grow the hive account, the dividends and the rewards. The people who take part in the project earn from their activity directly. But they also earn from the value that is brought to hive and to the Liotes ecosystem.
We are in the first phase of this project only. We would like to add more websites that offer other services but that also come with a referral program. Maybe there would be ways that generate more income and give nicer rewards than these paid-to-click websites.
Then we would like to build an automated onboarding program around it. The idea would be to create an online course, where people first learn how to earn some coins. Then they would be encouraged to send these coins to hive, to power them up and to delegate them to our curation project. At the same time they would earn daily dividends and see their bags grow.
We would bring people to hive without talking about content creation, curation or voting. They would discover it through the fact that it allows to build up their account and their income.
If we manage to bring a couple of people to hive, it will probably not be really rewarding but imagine if every week tens of people went through the onboarding process, generated referral commissions and then bring their earnings to hive? Things could sum up.
We have created a liotes mission for testing some of these programs. You would be very welcome to join the fun :-)
This first week of testing will give us an idea whether the idea is stupid or whether it could work. What you have to know is that the hive account already exists that we want to found (@liotes.learn) and all the commissions that will be generated during this test week, will be used to purchase hive and to power it up on this account.
Ok, maybe I'm just too excited about all this and it will turn out to be a drop in the ocean :-). Anyways, thanks a lot for reading :-)
Please consider supporting our Witness nodes:
It will be a drop in the bucket compared to exits, but at least there are some inflows.
Personally, I take things this way. I do these idle games on Hive, so I can bundle them up with a few other clickers like faucets (and ptc or whatever they have). Sure, generally, the idle games on Hive are more profitable and more fun, and without all the ads, but since I still kind of block an amount of time with them, I can do both. I certainly don't expect to get rich from either of them.
It's the same for me. There are some downtimes when it's better to do some faucets than just to wait until the lineup goes through in SL :-).
Over the years, I figured out that it's the accumulation of small amounts over many places that finally makes things look interesting :-)
You still play SL? I thought you sold out.
As long as you don't forget about them or accumulate in places that vanish after a while, I agree that having multiple small streams of income can be even better than a few bigger ones, when, if one drops, you feel it.

Thanks a lot for the curation!
I like anything that is bringing in outside money especially from ads or referral income to buy and power up Hive while bringing in new users. Right now I fail to find reasons to buy more Hive as all value seems to be slowly but surely drained by the HBD yield and so many users who get curated and are cashing out everything without any form of investment.
Hive has been in a 1000-Day downtrend and it doesn't look like it will turn around anytime soon. Big Green candles is what we need to attract more users again. Feels like some kind of big community effort along with some changes are needed to make that happen.
Good luck with the initiative!
I have the unfortunate feeling that most people don't see the relation between HBD yield, DHO payments and this downtrend... This idea could be a solution to work the other way round but I don't really think that it will make that big a difference. Maybe, it gives some ideas to other people :-)
It is interesting to see how things are played out for Liotes and all of us.
I have not tried the survey just yet, because some of the survey site that I did before, don't even let me finish the survey, only the preliminary question, but then they decided that I was not fit for the survey.
maybe I should try it as well, spending 45 minutes to get $3, is already something for me or any third world country, where they earn more or less for $10 a day of work.
I think that the return from surveys depends a lot on where you live. There are more surveys in developed countries I believe. I would be interested to know if you finds some surveys for your country?
It will be interesting to see how things go, but I agree that most of those sites only give you cents. It makes me wonder if it would work out that much at all because an hour at a job earns way more.
You are right that these websites only provide cents as income. However, we have to keep in mind that the value of 1 $ is totally different whether you live in a developed country or in 3rd world country. In many places a dollar a day can make a big difference already.
I agree that it probably isn't (actually it 100% isn't 🤣) worth my time at all, but I can devote 1 or 2 clicks per day on the site I signed up for as long as it helps in some small way.
It's great that you play along and put in some efforts, even if the profits are maybe not totally worth it. I've continued to do some faucets over time and just recently, I've realised that since I've started to use Freebitcoin, I have earned a total of 0.05 BTC which is worth today around 3'250 $. Not too bad I think :-)
Yeah the time is definitely not worth the money I feel, but if viewed as a casual time filler, then I think that's ok.
Exactly, you can do some faucets or ptc ads while you wait for an opponent in SL for example ;-)
