A Geeky Guy Needs Some SPlinterlands Advice

I have been a Steemmonsters I mean Splinterlands fan since day one. I started collecting and playing way back in 2018 before I even really knew what it was going to be all about. Considering how blockchain technology seems to grow and change at an exponential rate, 2018 was basically the infancy of blockchain games. Splinterlands was a brilliant idea and I honestly think a little ahead of its time.

For me the best part of the game wasn't the tokenomics (whatever that is) or the potential profit form investing. It was the game. I happen to love strategy games that involve building the best team to send into a battle. I am not sure how many people know what Heroclix is but I freaking loved that game! I bought a ton of the figures back in the day, downloaded a really cool collection manager and would spend hours building the perfect combos of super heroes for a team... that I would never even play. At first, I only played the game live a handful of times. Then things popped up online that allowed oyu to play virtually against someone else. I was in strategy heaven. After a while the sites fizzled out so I was left with nothing to scratch that team building and strategy itch.

Then in 2018, along came Steemmonsters (now Splinterlands) to more than scratch that itch. For me, the game was pretty much perfect. I could build a team and get instant feedback as to whether or not the team sucked or not. I'd get in a match, check the rule set and build the best team I could. Although I could have fast forwarded to the results, I am the type of guy who liked to see it actually play out. Although skill and team building was the major factor in victories, there was just enough luck to keep the game interesting. I actually think I was pretty good at it for a while.

As time went on, more and more sets got released. I could not keep up with the new powers and cards. It wasn't that I couldn't afford them, it just became too complicated for me. That doesn't mean the game got worse, quite the contrary, the game got deeper and richer... but I'm an old man who likes things simple. (The same thing actually happened with Heroclix as well. I don't think I could even play the game by the 20th iteration of the rules they are on now). So I stepped away from the game for a while. Last year I came back to finally get into some guild brawls. I probably should have been doing that since the first day they were available but i got distracted by other things. It seems that is where the most fun might lie.

I loved this game but it got a little too complicated for me.

Like every other player, I got very excited about the Land features that were announced. Although I was idle during the presale, I did buy about 6 plots off the secondary market before they were claimable. I couldn't wait to open them and see what I got. When Land finally launched, I was pretty happy with my plots. I got a rare plot an occupied plot and a magic plot. That was basically the three things I had hoped for and I had one of each. For a long time I just grew grain on most of the plots, did "research" on the magic one and collected SPS on the occupied plot. It was a pretty sweet setup.

Then things got complicated again (not worse... just complicated). Now there was iron, stone, and wood to harvest. I figured out a way to harvest it in a way where I could usually harvest my SPS about every week. But recently it seems like I don't have enough resources to harvest the SPS. So I need some advice.

How should I set up my land?

I currently have 4 plots Sonn and 6 plots in Bredaine. Sonn has Stone, Grain, SPS and Iron. Bredaine has 2 grain, 3 stone and 1 wood. Even with transferring between regions, it is definitely not self sufficient. I had my absolute best gold alpha cards on the SPS plot. But it turns out they were making so much SPS that I couldn't keep up with the resources to harvest. I have a wide variety of cards to use on each. I definitely have a top tier, lower and middle. I recently moved my best cards to the rare grain farm in an effort to get as much grain as possible. But I don't know if I am doing this in the most efficient way possible. I also don't know if I should be focusing on Aura and Research.

Here is the current set up:

If you had these plots and these cards that require the energy shown, how would you arrange them?

I will definitely give upvotes in the comments to anyone who gives me good advice. (I need all the help I can get).

And a special shout out to @bozz who inspired me to write this post.

@beaker007 has a great tool - https://land.spl-stats.com/player-overview/dashboard - click around in there to find inefficiencies and opportunities.
Keeping the higher number higher here is important, means you're making what you need, to harvest and don't need to buy resources or move them in from other regions.

You really want to focus on one region if you can. Now would be the time to buy/sell and concentrate everything in one place. Makes everything so much easier into the future.

I've heard about the Splinterlands game, but unfortunately I don't have any advice since I haven't gotten too involved. I'll keep an eye on the comments to see if I can invest a little.

You should definitely check it out... especially because you can dive in now for free and try it out.

Start with the campaign, it will get you some cards to battle.
Then head over to frontier mode that is a free to play mode.

I just redid all of mine this morning after pulling all of my cards off the land earlier in the week. If you use the peak monsters frontend, you can click the auto button and it will fill the land for you based on the best cards you have. I plan on sharing the numbers tomorrow, but I went from being at a net negative to a net positive.

Did you see the tool beaker007 showed me? Looks incredible!

I think that is the one I used to pull the screenshots, but I am not sure.

I’d recommend mapping out which resources you use most often and adjusting land accordingly,it makes a big difference.

I also invested some tokens in Splinterlands a while back and bought some cards, but honestly, I didn't know how to play and eventually sold them, even losing some money in the process. But oh well, maybe it was due to lack of time; I couldn't get as involved as I would have liked. But the important thing is that you can always start again, observing past experiences, learning, and then trying to achieve the best possible return.

i haven't bought any land, i don't know lands for now seems just a leech of resource until consumable items for battles come out

The game is running quite successfully since many years. I saw it blooming on hive since day 1. The participants like the game very much and to share the battle strategy to win some juicy loves. But I never get a hand on it.

The purpose of blockchain games is not to earn tokens, but to make your time beautiful. When we are sitting in time and thinking about something and are free, I have been watching this game for a long time. People are playing it with great interest. After the Land update, things have become even more different and whenever there is suspense in anything, it will definitely be famous

Splinterlands has grown a lot and sometimes it does feel a bit complex now. Your journey with the game is inspiring, and it’s nice to see your passion is still there.

I share your enthusiasm @hanshotfirst for Splinterlands. Could you recommend effective strategies for achieving victories? I have been playing in the Frontier format for four months, rapidly mastering the fundamentals through self-assessment as a newbie. I am eager to see my progress in one year, all things being equal.Great update!
