Social Media Challenge - Tales From The Slaughterhouse

Hi Splinterheads, here is another post for the Social Media Challenge. Today I am going to showcase a battle that I can only called an absolute slaughter. Every now and then I have a battle that looks evenly poised at the outset and then quickly turns into the total annihilation of the enemy in quick succession. Of course I put a team together that will give me the best chances of victory but I am also a huge fan of Scattershot, meaning my bestie Jacek the Conqueror, and I love the extra chance of striking enemy monsters indiscriminately.

There are a lot of new cards with a lot of new abilities, especially with the new Rebellion reward cards. For my taste there are too many of these new abilities, a lot of them don’t make sense and some of them are really not worth having. But I won’t get into that. Suffice to say, that sticking to what you know and keeping things simple by using the cards you have is a pretty reliable recipe for success. I therefore keep to my standard strategies and one of them is to field Jacek the Conqueror with Scattershot, Piercing and + 2 speed. What a combo!

Concerning the new reward cards, I look for candidates who will fit into my existing strategic gameplay instead of wasting my time and my glint on ridiculous new abilities, like Incendiary or Electrified but I guess that’s a matter of opinion.

So I suppose I am an old school Splinterlander and proud of it. It kept me in the game. So here I want to share a moment of pure joy, where I watch my opponent go down like a ton of bricks with no chance in hell of beating me due my superior boy Jacek… and some expected lucky strikes.

So here we have a mid mana battle with three rulesets. Here are the stats:

Rulesets: Scattershot, What Doesn't Kill You and Up To Eleven
Mana cap: 41
Splinters: red and white

Here is the team I put together:

My main man Jacek features in 80% in my fire battles. As I said he is my most preferred strategic weapon with Scattershot and Piercing. The rulesets already provide Scattershot, but I also want Piercing and the extra 2 speed.

When it is not a super high mana battle, I like fielding a little tank and keeping the bulk of the fire power in the midfield. Antoid Platoon is a great little tank and those little ants can do a lot of damage in their own right.

Molten Ash Golem with Close Range is a great backup tank in the second position and as an archer, he will scatter his load early. He also has high health which also strengthens the frontline.

Lava Launcher can be placed anywhere in the team, act as a tank, backup tank or big fat midfield attacker. With 5 range, every hit does a lot of damage to the opposition and when Scattershot is well placed, he is lethal.

Scavo Firebolt is a great low mana ranger, who can also create a lot of damage. He is also a regular inclusion in my team as most of the mana is taken up by the big guns.

Djinn Apprentice is a lethal weapon in combination with Jacek, as he will not lose firepower getting through shield. His 4 magic attack will cut though enemy lines like butter.

As most action will be through Scattershot, Tenyii Striker will attack the enemy rearend and with 5 melee attack, he will make kills.

So now that the team has been put together and the strategy is in place, let's take a look at how this battle plays out:

ROUND ONE

Screenshot 2024-09-27 at 11-34-56 Splinterlands - Collect Trade Battle!.png

The battle began at fast pace. Time Mage inflicted early damage and Venary Crystalsmith was hit and reduced to 1 health very early. Djinn Apprentice then took out Time Mage with one hit, which was officially the beginning of the slaughter. Scavo Firebolt then disposed of Venary Crystalsmith. So early in the battle and 2 significant enemy monsters have already perished! Then the third domino fell: Tenyii Striker took out Pelacor Arbalest, again with a single hit and round 1 wasn't over yet! In the meantime the enemy did little damage and the round ended with my team entire intact.

ROUND TWO

In round 2 we had only 3 enemy monsters to deal with and decided to order pizza earlier than planned. Tenyii Striker struck first and took out yet another enemy with one hit, leaving 2 sitting ducks to toast. Uriel the Purifier did no purifying and fell at the hands of a collective little ant effort. Djinn Renova was then the last enemy monster to bite the dust to complete a quick sharp slaughter of the opposition.

WHAT IS SPLINTERLANDS?

Splinterlands is an autobattle digital card game on the Hive blockchain. The playing cards are NFTs, therefore they belong to you and you can trade, transfer or delegate them as you please. All you need to move cards and other ingame assets around is a Hive Keychain login. There are three types of battles you can play: ranked battles, brawls and tournaments. Every battle you win brings rewards, including SPS and/or loot chests containing cards, potions, packs and merits. The ingame currency is DEC and the governance token is SPS. For gladiator packs you need to earn merits through brawls and loot chests. Tournaments can bring you stacks of SPS if you play well. There are several third party card markets, including Peakmonsters.com and the best places to learn to play are PeakD and YouTube.
