RE: Sam’s Hangout #124 - “Toxic Work Or Unemployment?”

(edited)

If you had to choose between staying in a toxic workplace that pays your bills and being unemployed with no immediate source of income, which would you choose and why? At what point do you think protecting your mental and emotional wellbeing becomes more important than job security?

Answer

I'll stay until I'm able to raise capital to create a business for myself. Sometimes to get to where we want to be comes with disrespect and bad experiences, choosing comfort would only make one stuck in a place where growth is retarded. No one is coming to save us, and sometimes to pull out from our financial struggles, we need to endure certain habits , choosing respect sometimes does not guarantee a promising outcome.

However, people may be quick to tell you to leave a toxic job, not necessarily because they don't understand the implications of staying unemployed, but because society knows the harm and disrespect that follows a toxic working environment even when they may not be of help financially.

I'll stay not because I don't value peace, but because I know sometimes building that dream comes with pain and from such pain comes gain.

A toxic working environment can be dealt with, with a right attitude but unemployment cannot be managed especially with bills and responsibilities waiting
