Life on the road is very interesting because you have the opportunity to see incredible places, make friends from many different places, and feel like you're constantly exploring new adventures. But all of this gets even better when you add music to it. The band Ukenia is a prime example of this. You could say they're nomads, even though they have a home. This is because they travel across their country by bus. They also carry a camper van. In it, they carry their food and sleeping quarters. And of course, all the instruments they need to play. They generally prefer rural or hard-to-reach areas to bring their music to people who can't get to a concert in a remote city. That's what sets them apart from today's industry.

Suki belongs to this team. She's the one who leads the group and always keeps everyone inspired. She grew up in an area with difficult access to music, so she was never able to attend big concerts. When she became important and formed Ukenia, she then set about bringing music to those who, like her in her childhood, had never been able to go to a concert.

Suki and Ukenia have been wanting to take a very special trip for many years. It's been over 10 years since she last visited the place where she grew up, and where she herself had never been able to attend a concert. She practically felt she owed the local people. Months before, she had told the local mayor that she would be visiting the town very soon and announced the date and time of the performance. As you can imagine, the locals were very excited about her visit because it meant they would be seeing one of the town's successful daughters perform, a woman born in their own land. They were definitely very excited.

Suki and her team had been preparing everything for several weeks because it was a long trip. They would have to cross the middle of a desert, and there would be no one to help them in that area before arriving. So, they had to be prepared for any unforeseen event. When everything was ready, they left for the destination. It would be several days of travel. But for Suki, it was just another adventure; she didn't mind the time she would be away from civilization. Also this trip was special.

The first day in the desert was great. They didn't encounter any unexpected incidents, so they really enjoyed the trip. Outside in the desert, it was scorchingly hot, but the bus had such air conditioning that it felt like you were at the North Pole. She thought it was funny when the driver, Edi, told her this. But unfortunately, the fun and laughter ended on the third day of the trip. They had less than 60 kilometers to go to their destination, and it was almost nighttime when everything started to go wrong. At around 5 p.m., the rear tire went flat. It took them almost an hour to repair it, so nightfall caught them in the desert.

It was the first time they'd been stranded so far away. But at least they all had hope that when they got the new tires, they'd be on time for the presentation, which was the next day at 9 a.m. They then set off again to reach their destination. Since the driver, Edi, wanted to arrive that same night to rest at the local hotel, he went fast. The remaining stretch was the most difficult because there were many steep hills. The combination of going fast and the steep hills pushed the bus's engine to its limits. It was practically red-hot. They had to stop to cool the engine.

But the high temperature had broken some seals and pulleys. They couldn't continue. Some thought it best to leave the bus and continue in the caravan. But they couldn't because it was small and full of travel gear and equipment. They wouldn't fit. The only thing they could do was tow the bus with the caravan. But they would have to go very slowly so as not to strain the engine. In short, it was a disaster because the presentation was at 9 a.m., and Suki was afraid she wouldn't make it on time.

That night, no one slept on the bus because they were afraid they wouldn't make it on time. Suki cried almost the entire way because it was a very special trip for her, and she didn't want to disappoint her friends. She just wanted to get there as soon as possible. When all seemed lost, Edi called everyone and told them she had good news. The hill was ending; now everything was flat and downhill. They could go much faster without forcing the engine. Suki's sadness quickly subsided and she began to cry, but with joy. Early the next day, the bus arrived on time with them. And they were able to give the concert despite all the setbacks. Everyone felt very happy.

La vida sobre rueda es muy interesante porque tienes la oportunidad de conocer lugares increíbles, hacer amistades de muchos lugares y sientes de que estas en una exploración constante de nuevas aventuras. Pero todo esto mejora más todavía cuando se suma con la música. La banda Ukenia es un ejemplo de ello. Se puede decir que ellos son nómadas, aunque tengan casa. Esto es debido a que recorren todo su país en autobús. También llevan consigo una caravana. En ella llevan sus cosas de comer y casas para dormir. Y por supuesto todos los instrumentos que necesitan para tocar. Ellos prefieren generalmente zonas rurales o de difícil acceso para llevar su música a las personas que no pueden acceder a un concierto en una ciudad alejada. Eso es lo que los distingue de la industria de hoy en día.

A este equipo pertenece Suki. Ella es la que manda en el grupo y la que siempre mantiene a todos inspirados. Ella creció en una zona de difícil acceso a la música así que nunca pudo asistir a grandes conciertos. Cuando se hizo importante y formó a Ukenia entonces se puso a manos a la obra en llevar la música a los que como ella en su infancia nunca pudieron ir a un concierto.
Suki junto a Ukenia lleva queriendo hacer un viaje muy especial desde hace muchos años. Hace más de 10 años que no visita el lugar en donde creció y en donde ella misma nunca pudo ir a un concierto de música. Prácticamente sentía que estaba en deuda con la gente de ese lugar. Ella meses antes había avisado al alcalde local de que iba a visitar el pueblo muy pronto y dijo la fecha y hora en que sería la presentación. Como podrán imaginarse la gente del lugar estaba muy emocionada por su visita porque significaba que verían actuar a una de las hijas exitosas del pueblo, una mujer nacida de su misma tierra. Estaban definitivamente muy emocionados.

Suki junto a su equipo llevaban varias semanas preparando todo porque era un viaje largo. Tendrían que pasar por el medio de un desierto y no habría gente que los ayudara en esa zona antes de llegar. Así que era necesario ir preparados para cualquier imprevisto. Cuando todo estuvo a punto salieron para el lugar. Serían varios días de recorrido. Pero para Suki era una aventura más, no le importaba el tiempo que estaría fuera de la civilización. Además este viaje era especial.

El primer día por el desierto fue genial. No pasaron por ningún imprevisto así que disfrutaron mucho del viaje. Afuera en el desierto hacia un calor abrumador pero el autobús tenia un aire acondicionado que parecía que estabas en el polo norte. A ella le parecía gracioso cuando Edi el conductor le decía esto. Pero lamentablemente la diversión y las risas se acabaron al tercer día de recorrido. Faltaban menos de 60 kilómetros para llegar al destino y ya era casi de noche cuando todo empezó a ir mal. A las 5 de la tarde más o menos la rueda trasera se pinchó. Tardaron casi una hora reparándola, así que les cogió la noche en el desierto.

Era la primera vez que se quedaban varados tan lejos. Pero bueno al menos todos tenían esperanza de que cuando pusieran la goma nueva estarían a tiempo en la presentación que era al otro día a las 9 de la mañana. Luego salieron de nuevo para llegar al destino. Como Edi el conductor quería llegar esa misma noche para descansar en el hotel local iba rápido. El trayecto que faltaba era el más difícil porque había muchas lomas empinadas. La combinación de ir rápido y las lomas empinadas llevaron al motor del autobús al limite. Prácticamente estaba al rojo vivo. Tuvieron que detenerse para refrescar el motor. Pero la alta temperatura había roto unos sellos y algunas poleas. No podían continuar. Algunos pensaron en que lo mejor era dejar el autobús y seguir en la caravana. Pero no podían hacerlo porque era pequeña y estaba llena de material y equipo de viaje. No cabrían. Lo único que podían hacer era remolcar el autobús con la caravana. Pero tendrían que ir muy despacio para no forzar el motor. En fin fue un desastre porque la presentación era las 9 de la mañana y Suki temía no llegar a tiempo.

Esa noche nadie durmió en el autobús porque temían no llegar a tiempo. Suki fue casi todo el camino llorando porque era un viaje muy especial para ella y no quería defraudar a sus amigos. Solo deseaba poder llegar lo más pronto posible. Cuando todo parecía perdido Edi llamó a todos y les dijo que les tenía buenas noticias. La loma se acababa, ahora todo era cuesta abajo y llano. Podrían ir mucho más rápido sin forzar el motor. Suki enseguida se le quitó la tristeza y empezó a llorar pero de alegría. Al otro día temprano el bus llegó a tiempo con ellos. Y pudieron dar el concierto pese a todos los contratiempos. Todos se sintieron muy felices.
