(edited)We have bots too and some people would just follow as many accounts as possible to try and get attention. I only tend to look at those who engage with me.
I just tried this query that shows around 1500 of my followers were active this year:
select count(*)
from Accounts a
join followers f on f.following='steevc' and f.follower=a.name
where a.last_vote_time > '2025-01-01' or a.last_root_post > '2025-01-01'

Checking on votes can produce deceiving results, as they could be automated and they are long gone. Maybe transfers out, instead. However, it slashed quite a bit of your followers numbers (and, I suppose, anyone's).
