Not many. There was a tool to check how many of them are inactive accounts. Last time I checked, things didn't look well. I doubt they improved.

But yet again, they don't mean much on traditional social media, but everyone considers them as an indicator. Not to mention, there are lots of bots following various accounts there.

We have bots too and some people would just follow as many accounts as possible to try and get attention. I only tend to look at those who engage with me.

I just tried this query that shows around 1500 of my followers were active this year:

select count(*)
from Accounts a
join followers f on f.following='steevc' and f.follower=a.name
where a.last_vote_time > '2025-01-01' or a.last_root_post > '2025-01-01'
