I don't always agree with what Yuval Noah Harari says, but when I do I meme it. I try to stay willing to listen to words I disagree with, it's part of thinking. It can be uncomfortable, but necessary.

I have devised a simple method for improving communication, discussion and debates. It's very simple. Start by listening, then restate what the other person has said so that they understand that you understand what they meant. Then you can propose your reply and ask them to confirm they know what you mean.
If you can reach this step, a discussion has begun! From here, additional comments, questions, refutations or evidence have a foundation to build on.
Don't rush to make your points, you can only win if everyone has a clear understanding of the hypothesis, or line of reasoning. Even if you disagree you should be able to state the other person's position clearly.
I am still working on step 1 and 2, listening and repeating. Can we all try to understand one another?
