I have actually seen people go through this thought process. Working in Mental Health for like 15 years.
It rarely touches them though. The nakedness is way too great an exposure for them to deal with.
This is actually why psych wards have suicide railings all over. The narc, the psychopath, and the sociopath are littered in these halls.
At some point they are confronted with themselves -- sometimes the pain is too immense that the only way out is death.
Most find a way back into the lie.
Very very few, like 0.02% or whatever, find a way out.

Yup!
I was one of them. I was faced with truth -- and accepted it for what it was.
It helped me immensely in my life!
It made me no huge amount of friends mind you, ha, but truth is a much happier way to see life.
