Hey everyone,
It's Friday, and you know what that means after a shopping trip... yep, brain completely drained. I swear, I don't know what it is about navigating aisles and making decisions, but it just sucks the life force right out of me!
So, since my mental energy for a deep dive into code or Hive tech is pretty low today, I figured I'd share something easy: what I often listen to when I'm working on these coding projects, or just generally when I need to power through something.
My go-to is usually SiriusXM Octane, and if you know that station, you know I have a penchant for loud, angry music. It just works for me when I need to focus or get pumped up.
And for some reason, I'm particularly drawn to powerful female vocalists in that genre – the ones who can really command a track with some serious intensity. Here are a few of my current favorites that were probably blasting while I was working on some of my recent tools:
Maria Brink from In This Moment
Maria has such a unique stage presence and vocal style, shifting from melodic to intense screams.
In This Moment - "THE PURGE" [OFFICIAL VIDEO]
Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox
Courtney's ability to switch between ethereal clean vocals and absolutely brutal lows is just incredible.
Spiritbox - Jaded (Official Music Video)
Tatiana Shmayluk from Jinjer
Yes, Tatiana! Her vocal range and the band's technicality are just mind-blowing. From jazz-like cleans to some of the most guttural growls you'll hear. If you have never heard Tatiana sing, just wait for it.
JINJER - Pisces (Live Session)
Now, this isn't all I listen to, by any means. My tastes are actually pretty eclectic. But when it's time to code, and especially when I need that extra push (or on a brain-drain day like today), this is often the kind of playlist that's firing.
What about you all? What's your go-to music when you need to focus or just want to rock out while you work (or do anything else)? Let me know in the comments!
Hope you have a great weekend!
As always,

I always felt drained after shopping trips too, which is a big reason that I never liked them. It's interesting, and I didn't fully realize it until just now, but when I need to focus on something important, I need silence, or the sounds of nature around me, to actually be able to concentrate. Have a great weekend, my friend! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙
Might be the florescent lights in the store that drains you. I have the same issue. I order online for pickup at the door, most of the time.
Octane is good but I'm more drawn to Liquid Metal a few channels up from Octane. They play the 3 bands you dropped in here as well. Also a lot more thrash fast stuff which I like. I also check out the 2 in between Octane and LM which are Ozzy's Boneyard for Metal Oldies and Hair Nation for 80s MTV Rock. Also good to listen during workouts.
Code on, Rock on! \m/
I also listen to Liquid Metal, but didn't want to scare everyone off. ;)
Spiritbox & JINJER is fking sick, yo! :D
