I think we can all say we were at a point at this stage of desperation, then we realized that we only need to protect our space so much that we would recognize the true love when it eventually finds us.

Exactly. We probably needed to pass through this stage for us to realize that love would come find us and we can accept all the love we need from the people who brings joy into our lives.
