I'm pretty good at playing Politics. My last job that I worked in taught me to play it very well. My task was simple. Find a way to work with the people that didn't feel a part of the wider company and get them to warm up to us.
It took a while of course. I mean I had to detangle layers of disappointment and bad management to get them to even think about working with someone in another branch let alone allow them to host their services in their own domain.
A task previously thought unthinkable -- but I managed to do it. It also helps that people in general gravitate towards me naturally. I'm never sure why. Perhaps it's just my raw honest vibe that I give off.
Anyway, playing at hive Politics is easier than I previously thought -- it really is just getting people to work with you on stuff that you're trying to achieve. Given that we're a small chain and everyone wants to succeed then there are virtually zero barriers at inception. People tend to want to work together for the greater good. One the whole anyway.
One thing that's hugely pissed me off as of late is how we've slipped down from 10th place on Hive Engine to 30th on the witness list. It's something that I never really thought would have ever happened given how we've served as one of the integral jigsaw pieces when it comes to holding all of the other projects together.
That and I had a big stack of them myself haha.
But then I saw which votes I would need to even get near the top and I thought to myself, "ah!" - yeah, I'm never ever going to get them. Things have happened, bridges have been burned, and well -- shit.
It's not a big problem at the end of the day, I mean it was only a small part of our function however I can forever scratch that off my list. It deflated me a little. But such is life, you need to plug on.
Recently I've been wanting to comment a lot more, become more active in commenting just as much as writing, and I stumbled across @acidyo's most recent post.
It was about how his most recent actions, how they've made him feel, the trouble that he's received because of it, and how he's sticking to his guns and because he believes in hive he's willing to hear people out and find some sort of middle ground if he can get his head around it.
Whilst I might not have agreed completely with Acidyo I do however admire his explanation and willingness to stick to his principles. That in of it's own is a worthy trait. I wanted to comment, but I thought a post commending him that I thought his reflections were worthy of an announcement more apt.
It also made me think of what a tangled web we weave on hive -- how sometimes we are forced into doing things that we would not normally do to retain large witness votes and delegations. A pressure I've not really experienced myself, but have heard people talk about through the hive grapevine.
As you see with Hive-engine I won't and will never be pressured into submission. I'll almost always take the loss and stick to my principles.
Something I now admire Acid for.
And yet interestingly I went to our Hive witness stats today. Something I've only seen for the first time. It could have been up there for months for all I know, but it was reading @quochuy most recent post on witness earnings. Curious I went to the witness page and found the stats counter listed beside our name there.
And wo and behold Acid is one of our biggest witness votes.
I actually didn't even know he was voting for us. I have someone far more competent with the witness tech side than me to manage that so I just let him burn the servers and I do the marketing and the shaking hands with the children.
Annnnyway.
Even although Acid and I have had some erm, spicy conversations over this last month which on the whole ended very well and with me seeing his perspective -- he still continued to vote us. So yeah, I admire that.
Thank you.
For all of you that vote us.
I had no idea we were getting all those big votes in. Now that I can actually see them through stats it's a little bit more invigorating.
And. Wait until you guys see what I have up my sleeve in the next few months.
So...
Okay, so I did that mostly for the lol's but it's clickable and you can support us if you'd like to.
Peace.

From our recent talks I hope you understand that I really don't wanna go out of my way to "punish" communities and people putting in work and doing good things just because they may be doing one thing that I don't agree with and think generally hurts stakeholders alike. I'm sure others wouldn't have given things a second thought and revoked support and kicked your community out after finding out about this, but the primary people this hurts is the regular authors who may lose out on curation and also generates disdain and grudges overall which is not a fun thing to have when we all should be working towards empowering users and the economy we all share.
My post was quite long and I realized the next day I hadn't even gone through some of the points I wanted to bring up, one of them being witness votes. It's kind of disappointing to see people unvote your witness because you chased away someone refusing to abuse curation, as if it makes all of the other things we do any less valid. At first I thought maybe it's cause I started a powerdown recently on it so had a few discussions with some of them and some seemed like they had good reason to, albeit weird timing, to vote for lower witnesses which I'm all for. Sure glancing at who else they vote for didn't help my ego/acceptance but what can you do, we all have different views and opinions of others and how they vote and not vote. I personally wouldn't have unvoted your witness cause of this cause it's only a small thing out of many different things you guys provide value through.
Now naturally if there was a series of things that kept on occurring time after time that I disagreed with it'd be different, but yeah.
People like to really take things personally I feel like, I guess it's kind of that "I'm the main character" mindset at play as well, everything has to be about me and not just this one particular action that may be getting me in trouble.
No, I hear you. I read that post, it was very reflective and it somewhat screamed to me some of the things I was going through currently on a Dpos level (but not related to what you were doing) - and in a way I admired that you stuck to your guns.
As for the other stuff - I mean we all need to figure out a way to get along I think. One thing that we've done really well. If you think of it, no other chains similar to us has done this as well as us. They've either resorted to centralized rule or failed completely.
That's something I've always admired hive for.
