On Hive, one thing that every user here actually definitely face at some point is this simple but somehow hard decision… do you power up or do you cash out?
So at first, it might not even look like a big deal, you just earn, see your rewards, and you are like, okay, let me just take this out and use it, and honestly, there is nothing wrong with that, especially when real life is involved, because bills don’t just pay themselves.

But for me, I have come to realize that I actually prefer to power up my account and let it grow.
It did not just start like that though, there was a time recently when I had to power down some of my Hive earnings because I had bills to sort out, and at that moment, it made sense ,You see I needed the money, and I still need the money, and Hive was there for me, so why not? That is one thing I actually appreciate about it, the fact that it can come through for you when you need it.
But then something happened.
As I was powering down, I started noticing the value of my account dropping, and I won’t even lie here, I didn’t like that feeling at all, It was like watching something you have been building slowly just reduce right in front of you, that was when it really now clicked for me.
I started seeing my account not just as something I can withdraw from anytime, but as something I am actually building, like a long term thing, something that, if I am patient with it, can become way bigger than what I am taking out now.
That’s when my mindset shifted.
I see power up as a way of investing in myself, very time I leave my rewards there or power up instead of cashing out, it feels like I am adding to something that will benefit me later, It is not always easy though, especially when you have needs and responsibilities staring at you.
There is always that temptation to just take it out and use it immediately.
But then I remind myself that growth takes time, If I keep taking out everything I earn, then I’m not really giving my account the chance to grow to its full potential, and on Hive, growth actually matters, the more you power up, the more influence you have, the more your account starts to carry weight.
So for me right now, I’m more focused on building.
Yes, there might still be times when I’ll need to power down again, because life happens. But it won’t be my default anymore. I’m now more intentional about letting my rewards stay and grow.
Because at the end of the day it is about finding a balance, you cannot ignore the things you need in your life but at the same time you should not keep taking away from something that has the potential to become really valuable like power up does.
So yeah if you ask me I will say power up is the way to go, not because cashing out is bad, but because I have seen what happens when you do not give your account the chance to grow into something big with power up.
Honestly I am choosing power up and growth this time because I think that power up is important, for growth.
